Help! “Could not create user”

  This is my old WP account I am using to access the forums – I tried to create a new wordpress account called “awkwardsmile”. Everything went fine until I got the activation link (Gmail in Safari); both clicking on the link and copying it into the browser leads to a page saying “Could not create user”. When I try to login it says my username is invalid, and when I try to create a new account using “awkwardsmile” it tells me that the username is “reserved”. Tried resending the activation email but it gives me the same activation code. Suspect I am stuck in limbo here, but I really want this username + my email is in it already. Help please? ):

  “Reserved” is a weird response. I suggest you contact staff:
