HELP!! Drop down menus on blog are refreshing page when clicked.

  • Unknown's avatar

The drop down menus are not functioning properly and when clicked, refresh the page. I would like to make a few changes to my blog content and to upgrade to Premium, but this is making it impossible!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your blog is protected. I cannot check it.
What is the content of your dropdown menus ? Pages? Categories? External links ?

Thank you so much for getting back to me!

Regardless of the content (I mean it doesn’t seem to matter), any dropdown menu on both my blogs, when clicked will completely refresh the page. ?

(Tearing my hair out!!!) Why?!! I just don’t get it. At this rate, I’m thinking about deleting the blog and having to start again….

  • Unknown's avatar

No, dropdown menus do not “refresh” your blog but they load whatever content you asked… Don’t delete your blog, but we can’t help if we don’t see the problem.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok. How can I help you see the problem?

  • Unknown's avatar

How do I unprotect the blog so that you can see it and determine the problem, if the very button that is used to unprotect the blog, refreshes the page when you click on it?

You need to change your site’s Privacy Settings in order for peers to see the site. If you would rather not do so, I will tag this for Staff assistance.

  • Unknown's avatar

no, that’s cool :) I’ll give it a try. Where are the Privacy Settings?

    Ok. Done. I think…

Hm, I don’t see any dropdown menus at all on your site thesnowdoniaproject.wordpress.com All I see there are 4 menu items, all Parent pages.

So now I’m wondering? Are you referring to a menu on your site or the dropdown menus in your Admin bar at the top of each page?

What browser are you using? If you are using IE, make sure it is not in “compatibility mode” which has been known to cause a plethora of problems.

    Hello again :)

Ok, so I’m assuming you can now see the site. I’ll do my best to explain the problem…

When I go into the ‘Dashboard’ section of my blog , click on the ‘Store’ button, click on the ‘WordPress Premium’ button, I arrive as normal on the correct page. Within the ‘Cheese a Payment Method’ section there is a button/dropdown menu under the title of Expiration Date’. If I click on this tab (or any others like it across WordPress) the page refreshes and diverts back to the black login page.

Clearly the tabs are there as a multi choice button, but for some reason their behaviour is all wrong..?

So, not on your site, but in your Dashboard, which only Staff can see regardless of Privacy settings. :)

Again, please, what browser and version are you using?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok. Thank s for clearing that up. Got it. Thank you :)

My browser is: Safari version 5.1

  • Unknown's avatar

Current version of Safari is 6. Could you please update your browser and then let us know if it works? If not, could you try in either Firefox or Chrome? http://browsehappy.com/

Hi JJ, Ok. So the upgrade to Safari 6 didn’t work (something to do with using Mac OSX 10.6.8 )

But I have installed Firefox and it seems to work on that. So I now I DO have WordPress Premium – which is a good start, but I’d rather use Safari with it, than have to learn Firefox just before my project starts.

Perhaps I’ll leave it for today and pick it up again. Need to get away from the screen for a bit :)

Thanks for all you help today. Hamish.

    You’re welcome.

Because WordPress.com is constantly rolling out updates to this site, you will want to work with an up-to-date browser. As far as updating with older OS’s, I had the same problem with my work PC using WinXP. Moved straight to FF and haven’t regretted it yet.
