Help! Email subscription
-
Hi, I just added the “subbscribe to blog” widget on my blog, chocolatecoveredkatie.com
But I don’t want my entire post to appear in peoples’ emails, just a snippet so they know I updated. Is it possible to set that up somehow?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t see any options offered in the support documentation. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/blog-subscription-widget/
However, you can set your RSS feed entries to display either full or summary posts on this page > Settings > Reading
For each article in a feed, show
__Full text
__Summary
“Save Changes”Have you tried that?

I’m picky… I want full feeds to show in google reader, but only partial ones for email subscribers. Judging by the lack of responses I’ve gotten here, I’m thinking there’s no way to do that?
In any case, thank you Timethief, for taking the time to respond!! It really means a lot to me.

If you set:
Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading >> For each article in a feed, show >> Summery
The email will show up with a summery around 50 words long – I have set up some friends blog to do that for their sailing diary. There does not seem to be any split and send partial to some and a lot to others.

Subscribers’ emails only show the first few lines of a post by default so, unless your posts are extremely short, you’ll be fine. It doesn’t work for updates, by the way – only for new posts.

If you use one of the themes that supports the excerpt function, you could make a custom excerpt even including formatting (shortcodes excluded) which are what goes out to email subscribers. For feed, I think you could set it for full posts but I’m not sure.
