Help exporting content from dead blog
-
Hello
Is there any way to export content from an old WP blog that has since been deactivated? I can still see the pages I want on my phone when I view the app but if I use the desktop site I cannot access any of it. It seems it still exists even though the site is no longer live, but if I export from my phone, the emailed zip file is empty. Is there anything I can do? -
Hi there,
What is the URL of the site?
I only see two Jetpack-connected sites in your account. Those sites aren’t/weren’t hosted on our servers, but were built using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider.
What you see in the mobile app is cached data downloaded the last time the app was able to connect to the site. But if the site has since been taken offline at the hosting provider, then the content no longer exists – it would have been deleted from the hosting provider’s servers – and it will no longer be able to export it. Content from a site like that that’s cached in the app or on WordPress.com cannot be exported – any export would need to be done from the site itself.
Your only option is to contact your old hosting provider directly and ask if they perhaps still have an archived backup of the content. If they don’t, then there’s no way to recover that content.
