Help find Authorization Code for domain name that is Expiring? Want to transfer

  I’m trying to get a transfer/authorization code from WordPress to transfer http://www.dukereaderproject.org to Dreamhost, since we are now hosting it there.
  I tried to find it under “My Upgrades” but “Transfer to Another Site” doesn’t show up there like it does for my other domain name. I know we use wordpress.org for that site and not wordpress.com (this is why we switched to Dreamhost) but we had last paid WordPress for the domain hosting, and I’d like to transfer it to Dreamhost now that it’s expiring.

  Can you help me find an authorization code? And remove the privacy setting, if that is on?

  Hi Celia,

  To obtain your authorization code you will need to go to your Store -> Domains page and follow the prompts you find there:

  1. Look for Domain Administration and change the dropdown menu to “Transfer to Another Registrar”
  2. It will state that you may not transfer a domain name for 60 days after its purchase. Click the button “Next Step”
  3. Enter a new password, putting it into both blanks (this is a new one you’re making up, so make sure to write it down)
  4. Write down your Customer Number which is displayed just below
  5. Click the “Save Password” button
  6. Click the link for “Manage Your Domains”
  7. Log in with your customer number and password that you wrote down in steps 3 & 4 above
  8. You will be prompted to create a PIN number
  9. You should now be logged in and see a list of your domains. Select your domain.
  10. Now, you will need to unlock your domain. Right under Domain Settings you will see ‘Lock’. Click on Manage right underneath ‘On’. Check ‘Off’ and click Save.
  11. Toward the bottom of the page you will see ‘Authorization Code’. Please click ‘Email my code’.
