Help finding the right theme
-
I’m having trouble finding a theme with the features I’m looking for. We have a company logo that I want to be our header, and would like an theme with a content carousel, and color options. I’m not able to see enough information on the theme previews for some of the premium themes, though I’m happy to pay for a premium theme. I also wondered if the only thing that can go into a content carousel is featured posts, or if I can have it linked to pages. We are a fitness company and I’d like the content to be linked to our different programs.
Can someone please point me in the best direction?

Hi there,
There’s no magic way to choose a theme because everyone wants something a little different. Sometimes the best way to find the right one is to try out a few and see if they do what you’re looking for.
To narrow it down, you might start with this search:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/Different themes will handle the slider options differently, so again, it would be worth testing a few out.
Once you find one you like, the Custom Design upgrade will allow you to modify colors using the Custom Colors options, and if you want to tweak them further than what that allows, you can also add your own custom CSS.

If you decide to purchase a custom theme and later determine that it doesn’t work for you, we offer a full refund for 30 days.

Thank you for your reply! We have been using WordPress.com for over a year, and are needing to add a store to our page. We’ve connected with a different company for that, but now I’m realizing that we need to move from WordPress.com to .org. Until this week, I didn’t even know there was a difference. I’m reading up on making the switch, but I naturally just decided on a premium theme that would be good for the new site. If we purchased the new theme and then made the switch from .com to .org, would the theme transfer as well??

In case you need to have more info, the theme we were looking to purchase is named Photographer.

Hi there,
You are correct that if you want to build an ecommerce element to your site that moving your site to a self-hosted WordPress installation is the way to go.
Themes purchased on WordPress.com cannot be transferred to a self-hosted site at this time. You should instead plan to purchase it directly from our theme shop partners, Organic Themes: http://www.organicthemes.com/theme/photographer-theme/
The following link will explain more about how to move your site:

Thank you for your fast reply-
I don’t know if this is where I should ask this question, so if its not let me know where to ask!
We have our own domain name for our WordPress.com blog, crossfitwando.com. Our company also has a second website, operated by photobiz, http://www.ffitonline.com, that we are looking to cancel. In moving to WordPress.org, we are merging the content basically of the two sites and adding in a store feature. I’ve read about exporting the content from our .com blog. My question is if after doing that, will crossfitwando.com have to close immediately? We are going to use ffitonline.com as the domain for our WordPress.org site, but I would love some buffer time to work with the exported content in the new site, while still maintaining our current site. Does that make sense?
To say it another way, I want to copy all of our current blogs content into our new WordPress.org site, and once I have it in good condition publish it under a different domain from our old .com URL, and direct traffic to the new URL.
I’m unfortunately not the most tech savvy, so all of this seriously terrifies me ha! But the idea of having an unpublished “ffitonline.com” to work on makes it less intimidating.

Hi again,
Exporting your content does not actually delete it. Instead, it creates an XML file you can use to import into a new WordPress blog elsewhere. Your old site will remain unscathed throughout this process and you can continue to use it as normal.
