Help? Fixing Hacked Account – Too Many Author Views
-
Hi,
I can tell my account has been hacked since on one of my blogs my own author views are quite high, even on days when I did not visit/work on my blog at all. I have given no one else access to this account, I’m the only author. A couple of weeks ago I changed my password, login email, and did 2-step authentication for log in but it is still happening.
What can be done? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
P.S. Apparently it autofilled in “The blog I need help with is wwndw.wordpress.com.” While I have had this problem with both my blogs (which are on the same account) currently the hacking seems to be on thesartorialsleuth.wordpress.com

Hi there,
How recently was this potential hack attempt? 3 months ago, it looks like there were some questionable login attempts, but since then, I have not seen any suspicious activity. The stats do not look out of the ordinary. What suspicious activity is happening since you changed your password and added two-step authentication?
-
I haven’t been looking at/working on my blog the past couple of weeks but the author views were really high, so clearly someone was in my account looking around at things.

Hey there,
The views were not too abnormal and it looks like those views came from one or two visitors, which is common. There is no indication of hacking based on what I am seeing in the stats. Totally normal trends – a few viewers from two different countries viewing 4-5 different pages on your site.
-
Just to be clear, this is the site we are discussing: https://thesartorialsleuth.wordpress.com/
Let’s take August 23rd where there were 21 views. The stats bar says 13 of those views came from me. At most I had visited my site 1 time that day and it would only have been through the dashboard to look at the states. How can that not be evidence of someone using my account?!
-
It’s a public site, so those views could have been from anyone who stumbled across it.
Also, we do not count your visits if you are logged in.
If you’d like to make the site so that only you and invited guests can view it, you can do that:

Oh, on re-reading your topic here I realize when you’re saying “Author” views , you mean views by you as the author.
If you’ll get a screenshot of the stat you’re referring to, along with a link to that page, we can confirm what that stat means.
You can upload a screenshot at https://wordpress.com/media and then update us here.

OK I don’t understand. There is a stat showing overall views. Then there is a stat showing author views. How can there be 21 author views if I only visited my own site once that day?
If public views=author views, why have a separate stat for author views? -
Sorry, my previous reply was to your first reply, supernovia. I have uploaded a screenshot of the day I gave as an example.
-
Got it. So, that stat is meant for sites with multiple authors, to show how many views that person’s articles got. For example, here are some authors from a busy site:

If the first person has written 82 posts on that site, the stat you see there is the total of all views for all of their posts, for the time frame selected.
Does that help?
