Help for a blog to redirect to other blogs
-
Hello,
I throw myself upon ye, fine people of WordPress, to assist me with this pressing issue.
I run two blogs, both of which I regularly maintain. However, what I really require is one webpage which has the option to pick which blog to go to. For instance, you go to example.wordpress.com and has two options, go to example1.wordpress.com or example2.wordpress.com. You get the idea. I had a vague notion of doing it with two images, hyperlinked, then it would look like a separate blog, but I want it to just be an options page.
I know I sound awfully stupid, but I really would be massively grateful for assistance – the issue is very troubling. -
You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.
This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.
If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.
If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

Oh, maybe you need my blog URLs, which are:

You could make a static front page for each of the blogs with identical links to 1 and 2. Then no matter which blog they came to, they would be presented with the choice of going to one of them or the other. That would be my suggestion.

One thing I will mention is that static landing pages will hurt a site when it comes to search engine ranking since search engines like to see dynamic landing pages for sites (blogs or otherwise).
-
One other thing I’ll mention (if this sort of redirect could be done here) is that returning visitors are going to be annoyed by having to hit that landing page and then click another link each time to get to the blog they want to visit, and anyone coming in from a search engine from a specific post link would also not want to see a landing page. They might not even know which one to click on to get to the post they wanted to see.
Personally when the whole “landing page” craze was going I got so annoyed that if I landed on one I just went somewhere else. The whole focus should be getting people to your stuff as directly and smoothly as possible.
The “landing page” craze was replaced by the “flash intro page” craze and now if I click a link and end up on flash intro pages, I just hit the browser back button.

Ah, that’s a good point. I think I will in fact create a new blog just for the landing page, making the homepage of my blogs will without landing pages. That works, right?
-
The thing you have to think about, is that that new blog would have NO content except for the two links to the other blogs. That means that landing page blog is going to get absolutely zero attention from the search engines, and there is no way to redirect your main blogs to that new blog with the landing page as far as the search engines go, so it really isn’t going to work.
My suggestion would be to have a prominent link (possibly with an image) in the sidebar of each of your blogs alerting your visitors to the existence of the other blog, possibly with a short introduction explaining what they will find there. Put it at the top of the sidebar where it is easy to notice.

I’ve gone with the image idea. It’s done, no changin’ – I’ve had enough fooling with this. Thanks very much Richard(?).
