help for RSS that I can understand

I can add a text widget to my sidebar, and have it linked to my blog feed, but it displays a little box with an x in it. I’ve read a million FAQ’s and forum posts, but have no idea what to do. I downloaded a RSS icon, but don’t know what to do with that. Someone please give me an answer that makes sense. I have a college degree, but can’t do this for the life of me. Why don’t the FAQ answers make more blasted sense?

I can’t answer that last question.

But I can’t answer your others without a direct link to your blog, so please provide it, starting with http.

Here’s the faq you should read: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/
If there is something you don’t understand, just ask. Raincoaster is right: it is as good as impossible to help people without seeing their blogs. Please link your blog to your name in your profile.

    My blog is at http//www.clarkbunch.wordpress.com
The faq topic that isadora mentions is what I’ve tried many times. I can get it to work, but it looks like an x in a box. There’s a long list of rss buttons that I can “link to” but I don’t know how to do that. I clicked on the web page at the bottom of the list, and downloaded an icon, but have no idea what to do with it. I’ve spent literally hours on this, feel like an idiot, and can’t imagine at this point that it’s worth it. But if you can tell me what to do so that normal, intelligent people can actually do it, maybe I’ll feel differently.

Okay, I think I got it. I did a Yahoo search, found a site that makes buttons. I entered my blog title, URL, feed URL and it wrote the code for me. I copy/pasted into a text widget, idiots could do it. Topic resolved.
