help getting started!

Help!!! I am finding it extremely difficult to use this site! So far, I can not display my post the way I want it ie in my blog, I would like to have my text on the left with an image on the right, not a long blob of text with the picture at the bottom, and then 3 words of text under the picture, instead of with rest of words ! Not sure how that happened, but not happy with the image). I cannot seem to get the gallery to take more than 1 photo, and I also can not get a gallery to show on my page which I would like to have as a slider at the top, as well as a static gallery. I am also having trouble actually adding any photos. I would also like to have catagories ie one for my blog, one for my art work, one for antiques/shabby chic, to show as a menu on the right hand side of page, but I cant seem to find a way to do that either. And I can not make the wording of about me actually stick; I type it, save it, preview it, and then it appears as a lot of gobbledy goop. I have not added it to the page. All in all I am a bit of a dunce! Please help! Thank you, Lynne Hudson

If you are copying and pasting from a word processing document like Microsoft WORD please read this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/the-paste-as-word-button-has-been-removed-from-the-visual-editor?replies=3
Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/
See also: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advanced-html/P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

I recommend using the classic editor at Dashboard > Posts > Add New
http://drsil.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpMake sure you have third party cookies enabled on your browser please or you will continue to have issues http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/#how-do-i-enable-third-party-cookies
See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment
The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it.
Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.
To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the Text (HTML) editor after each image/text pair:
<div style="clear:both;"></div> -
I also can not get a gallery to show on my page which I would like to have as a slider at the top, as well as a static gallery.
You can have a gallery and/or slideshows on any post or page. See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/One cannot just add a post slider. We cannot access and edit templates. There are currently 69 Post Slider WordPress Themes WordPress.com Themes that display a large slideshow at the top of your front page to highlight your recent posts or images click this link http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/

Technically you can’t post to more than one page on any blog but do read on. Static Pages and dynamic Category Pages are not the same. The former cannot automatically update but the latter do.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/If you want to have pages that do update then they must be replaced by dynamic category pages that will automatically update every time you publish a post assigned to the relevant category.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.
