help getting started?
-
Hi,
I had a domain name with GoDaddy, and I asked you guys to ‘map it’ and I think you charged me $13. What I’d like is to to use WordPress free as a website with my domain name: jerrymirskin.org I chose the ‘suit’ theme, but now can’t seem to find the site or how to design the page. What I’d like is a main page and some linked pages with samples of my writing. Does Word Press do this? or is it strictly a blog format? What do I need to do to get started? -
Domain mapping costs $13/year if you already own the name, so that’s correct.
You can’t use jerrymirskin.org for free. Using a custom domain name will cost $13/year plus the annual cost of owning the domain name. If you want a free domain name, you can use one of WordPress’s free domain names. They end in .wordpress.com, as in jerrymirskin.wordpress.com.
Side note: the total cost of domain registration plus mapping is only $18/year if you register the domain name through WordPress.

You can check what theme your website is using by going to My Sites –> Themes. You should see “Current Theme” displayed in the upper left of the page.

If you want a main page, you’ll need to set one of your pages as a static homepage. Then you will no longer have the blog format on your homepage.

Hope this helps you to get started!
