Help – how can I add CNAME record to the Domain Name Server
-
Is it possible to add CNAME record to the Domain Name Server in my free site? I need to verify my site somehow. There are other ways to verify my site, but I think in all I need to edit the header and I can’t in my template. Wondering if I can do the DNS method. Help please!

Hi there,
It is not possible to edit the DNS of a free site on WordPress.com, though this is an option if you have connected a custom address to your site instead.
What service are you trying to verify your site with? Is it with Google, Bing, or Pinterest? If so we do provide a way to verify those without the need to access DNS settings. See the guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/webmaster-tools/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you!!! I have been trying for hours to figure this out! The verification worked for both Bling and Google! But I am still having a problem :(
My reason for doing this is that I desperately need to remove a pdf that I had posted to my site. I deleted it from my site media but the link is still functional and appears in Bing. I have enter the link in Block URL in Bling and hit submit. It says submitting, but then nothing happens and it still says no URLs submitted. Any ideas???
Can WordPress remove the link/ make it nonfunctional or clear the cache or something?
THANK YOU!

When I try the block on Google I get an error message “URL not in property”. Perhaps because my verified site is https://sandratavares.wordpress.com/ but the pdf is found at https://sandratavares.files.wordpress.com/ (with files before wordpress). Do you have any suggestions for blocking/removing a pdf at https://sandratavares.files.wordpress.com/?
Thank you!

Hi there,
It can take some time for Google and Bing to update their index, and we have no control over this. Over time, search engines will realize that your PDF has been deleted and they’ll remove it from their cache.
You can use each search engine’s file/URL removal tool. But that’s something that always works.

Hi,
Bing wouldn’t let me do the removal before because the link was still active because it was in the WordPress cache. One of the staff has since cleared the cache, so I can relieved now :) Removed and solved!
Thanks!
