Help! I can't add categories!

Hi all. I’m using Sunspot theme and have spent hours trying to add categories without success. Have tried using WordPress “help” feature, google searches and forum searches and still can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Categories can be assigned only to Posts, not to Pages.
Categories can be created in your dashboard http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-the-dashboard or they can be created “on the fly” in posts. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-the-categories-module

Until there is a published post in any Category there is nothing that can be displayed in the Categories widget or on the dynamic Categories pages.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/As your blog is set to “private” we Voilunteers cannot see it and cannot determine which aspect your are having issues with. If you need more help than what I posted then change that setting to public please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

I have tried following your advice and still can’t quite figure out what I’m doing wrong.
I’ll make the blog public, temporarily, and will hope that you can get some idea of what may be wrong.

Ah, I think you have been adding pages, not posts. Try going to the Dashboard > Posts > Add Posts page. Look around and you will see categories.
