Help! I’m getting way too many visits…

    Views of my site are up by 8500% today – obviously something is going on and it’s not my scintillating posts about book reviews :-( Any ideas as to how I can halt this activity?

    I can see a big spike in views on that site, but there’s nothing wrong here. That is actually how many people are viewing your site today. It appears that all these visitors are going directly to your site’s front page, rather than to a specific post.

    Looking at the country stats most of these visitors are based in India, and looking at referrer stats, they’re being sent to your site by Google, so your site is likely coming up as the top result for a particular search term for internet users in that country. Unfortunately Google doesn’t tell us what the search terms are that people use to find your site, so that’s as much information I’m able to give you.

    Any ideas as to how I can halt this activity?

    The only way to stop people from visiting your site is to set it to private. If it’s public, it means anyone on the web can find it via search engines like Google, visit it, and share it, which in turn again allows others to find it.

    Thank you for your response. I seem to be getting traffic via http://www.v1pet.com which has my blog front page as I’ve published it, with additional text inserted, so I wondered if that had something to do with it??

    Anyway, hopefully I’m not flavour of the day tomorrow – while some people might want a lot of traffic, I’m not thrilled because it has distorted my stats! :-D

    Oh wow, they’ve just copied your whole blog. This site is not hosted by us so we can’t help with it but I’d suggest reaching out to the host of this site – Cloudflare to report it.
