Help Importing To Personal Site

  I am setting up a new website and want to import my existing blog into it. I followed the export and import instructions but my most current imported blog entry is from 2008 and the majority of my files did not transfer.

  Also, the theme I have been using isn’t listed in the theme section. Can I directly transfer everything?? (that would be so nice!)

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  With regard to the import we Volunteers cannot help you but Staff can. Contact them using this link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  With regard to importing a theme. That’s not possible. The only theme we can use are found here > Appearance > Themes

  As you are new to WordPress.com I suggest you read this entry very carefully. WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org: The Differences > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  I can recommend a comprehensive tutorial. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/ This is the link to all support documentation http://en.support.wordpress.com. There you will find a searchbox that provides results form the documentation and from forum threads.

  Thank you. I have been using .com for 6 years and am not transitioning to my own website. I have found several different themes that I can purchase to use, but I would rather use a free one. :)

  I’ll check into the links you mentioned. I did export and import a blog once and it worked out well, maybe this one has too much content and needs to be done in stages.

  Hi Lisa,
  I misunderstood you. I thought you were moving in the opposite direction ie. to WordPress.com — it’s okay to laugh :D
  For free WordPress.org themes see here > http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
  Be cautious about using free theme form the web. Some have hidden links and sponsored footer links and other stuff that you won’t even be aware of embedded in them.

  :) Thanks for the better links. I thought the last ones weren’t what I was looking for and you got me before I even looked. I also figured that the .org stuff had a lot more options available than the .com, but hey – it’s my first day and it’s been a little frustrating.

  I did have to do the export and import in smaller chunks – too much content it seemed. Breaking it down into bite size pieces did the trick.

  Now – off to figure out the whole update thing…
