Help! Invasion of posts by "text enhance" program
-
Random words in my post have been showing up as highlighted, and when a reader passes the cursor over the word it shows a box with a commercial message (ad), some of them suggestive or obscene. At the top of the message box it says “powered by Text Enhance.” Is there any way I can get rid of that? It really messes up my blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just to let you know: I’ve just taken a look at your blog — it looks just fine; there’s nothing highlighted. Seems OK to me.

I don’t see any such links on the site linked to your name, but WordPress.com DOES run ads on our blogs. They shouldn’t be obscene, though.

Thanks everyone. Further research indicates the problem is malware/adware on my computer, not WordPress. I’m still struggling, but I’m glad to know the problem is not systemic.

Try disabling all browser add-ons and extensions, and let us know if that makes a difference.

nullI wrote a blog about how to remove Text Enhance a while ago: http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-text-enhance/
Has a lot of information if anyone needs it.

@seangdoyle: Thanks for this; yours is the best discussion of this problem I’ve seen. As I noted earlier, my problem with Text Enhance had nothing to do with WordPress but represented an infection/invasion of my own computer. I finally registered the fact that my Norton Antivirus software had expired. Duh! I updated the AV subscription and the TextEnhance problem promptly disappeared. A reminder never to venture onto the Internet without protection.

Thank you, glad you got it taken care of.
It’s also good to know Norton detects Text Enhance. – I appreciate that info. -
