Help – links redirect to SPAM page

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m a public school librarian and I manage a page for a state children’s choice book award . (Land of Enchantment Book Award) The majority of the pages in this site focus on selected books for students PreK- Highschool to read and vote on in the spring.

Voting is supposed to take place right now and end on April 30th. We use a simple linked Google Form to collect vote tallies from schools, libraries and families around the state.

Every time I try to link my Google Form on the “Voting” page for users to access, the link redirects to an Italian website called Rainbow Magic Land. If you hover over the linked text however, you can see that the correct Google address/file shows. I’m worried that this is some sort of redirect to a virus or malware.

This only seems to happen with new links that I’m trying to add – preexisting links on the “Resource” page do not appear to be compromised

Please help! I’m afraid that my knowledge of how to look at the code and find hacked inserted code is very limited. Students across our state are supposed to be voting right now and currently can’t because of this hack. :(

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Follow Up-

If I copy my Google Form link into a tinyurl shortener – it appears to work again? It seems to be connected to the Google address somehow?

I’ve left two links on the Votes Page –
the 2018_Black Bear link uses a tinyurl

the 2018_Lizard link uses a google forms shortened link

If someone with more knowledge could look that would be very appreciated.

    Hi!
I report the same problem on my blog eserciziscuola2018.wordpress.com
Every link redirects to Italian website called Rainbow Magic Land instead of Google Forms pages.
This problem happens only on Android devices; on Windows Pcs links work normally.
I installed Ad-block in Firefox browser on an Android smartphone: when I tap on a link the new page is “killed” but nothing else happens and Google Form page is not reached.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help solving this problem!

    Hi loebookaward and gianniblogger,

I’ve checked the links on your sites and I am not being redirected on either one — the Google Form links are working as expected.

Does the problem occur on more than one browser? And are you redirected when browsing the site using a different device?

    @loebookaward
    — which device are you using when you are redirected?

A screenshot of what you are seeing would be helpful if you can send one.

    Take a Screenshot

Please upload it to your Media Library so I can take a look.

    Thanks!

Hi Gemma – Thank you for your help.

I’ve added a link at the very bottom of the https://loebookaward.wordpress.com/voting/
page title LOEtestlink if you’d like to give this a try yourself.

The redirect seems to be aimed at Google specific addresses. I have linked websites on my resource page and these do not seem to be affected. However, if I try to link a google specific address on that page the same unwanted redirection will happen. If you use your mouse to hover over the “LOEtestlink” you’ll see that in the bottom left corner it will signify that you are going to go to a https://goo.gl/forms address. However when you click on the link and watch the address bar at the top of your browser you’ll clearly see that it starts to go to Google then suddenly says “redirect” and takes you to the other website. I loaded images into my media files for you to see. I also have a video recording of this happening that I can share, but because I only have the free site I cannot load in in my media files. I’m happy to share it in a different way however. Please let me know.

I have tried this on multiple platforms/Browsers with the same results each time including:
    iPad
    iPhone
    Mac Desktop
    Mac Airbook
    Hp laptop

    Safari
    Internet Explorer
    Chrome

Here is the tricky thing though, I did not know this was happening on my site until I was notified by a user. If I’m logged in the link appears to go to the correct location (which should be a Google Form for voting on children’s literature). I have confirmed this redirect myself by trying the link while NOT logged in to WP as well as having it confirmed by three different users all at different locations on different devices.

My voting Tally links are currently working because I switched the linked Google survey by converting it into a tinyurl address and relinking it. If you test those links you will NOT see a problem. Please be sure to try the link at the bottom of the page that is called “LOEtestlink” to see what I’m referring to.

Thanks again for your help – it is very appreciated!

Me too (https://cij.org.nz/2018/04/05/the-inaugural-2018-cijjies/). But this stopped happening immediately after I upgraded to the paid Personal account.

I’m not shilling for WordPress here – I’m absolutely furious and will be switching away from them as soon as I have time to build a new site.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the extra information you provided. I’ve passed it on to our developers and they are working on a fix. In the meantime, I’ve made an adjustment on our end which should stop it from happening.

    I have the same problem. Steps: http://www.silutesmenomokykla.lt -> GALERIJA -> DAILE/ART ->BAIGIAMIEJI DARBAI/2017
This problem does not exist if you are logged in. Or read from a computer that you connect most often. But if you reading from other computers – advertising.

  • @schnuffito

We are working on finding the root cause and fixing it for good, but for now we’re able to prevent it on specific sites as a temporary measure.

It should now stop happening on your site, and also for @padleskole
