HELP! – Locked Out After Trying to Move from sub-domain to root
-
I messed things up trying to move my WP setup from a sub-domain to the root. I am running Genedsis theme with Sleek child. But this is a WP issue i believe.
It was (and the broken blog still is) at http://www.syncro.org/blog
I tried to move it using FTP program to http://www.syncro.org/blog
I was able to move all of the WP files just fine, and the index page was working fine in the root, but i could not go in to admin because i forgot to change my main URL on the admin general settings page where it asks what URL to use. So i moved it back to the sub domain and went into admin and changed the URL and then moved the WP install back to the root, using FTP. The problem then was in the login window. The “Send” button sends it to the sub-domain while i have to use the root domain to get the login window. I am locked out no matter where i move the files, root or sub domain.
3 questions
1. Which page or php files specifies the domain you will be using? Can i pull it up in dreamweaver and fix with the right address / URL and then upload it? Or do I have to do a re-install?
2, If i reinstall the genesis theme or the sleek child, will all of my data still work that I entered building the site?
3. I messed something up moving the files. Maybe i lost one? Or one got into the wrong folder. The theme does not seem to be loading, or the child:
What a disaster. I spent weeks building the site. Was just going to launch it.
Thanks for any help.

The magic words:

Mean:
The site you are asking about is not hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

To move from sub-domain to root only requires you to move and modify two or three files – the folks at WordPress.ORG get two or three people a day that did what you did so one of the regulars should have the fix-it instructions over there as a copy and paste instructions for you – or maybe they have added a sticky Post for it by now..
