HELP! Lost all my followers in one minute – how is this possible?

In one minute my blog followers just moved from 574 to 96, how is this possible? All I did was log out of my account and when I went back in a minute later all followers were gone.
I have no confidence in the follower counter and wish to remove it. How can I do this?

WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. I think I have corrected it. I had temporarily disabled the sharing link to my Facebook and Twitter and when I re-linked it the number of followers went back up.
Out of interest, how do these link up to determine total number of followers?

We’ve clearly got our wires crossed.
As I’ve already indicated in my follow up post above the blog I’m referring to is everyafricanWOMAN.com not everyafrican.com as you keep insisting.
In any event, I have now resolved this issue and no longer need assistance.

I suspect Staff are working on that area and that the follower count will be restored. I’ll tag this thread for Staff. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

All good not a problem.
I suspect the issue was due to my disconnection of my link to my Facebook and Twitter pages. The followers have been restored after I restored the sharing links. So it’s all sorted now thanks!
