    Hi,
    my blogpost is https://oasiswebsite.wordpress.com/
I want to put static page with Sticky posts Slider and table both as a home page. How can I do that.
Slider possible only with recent post page. While static page doesnt contain slider.
Table will contain ‘photo images with text below it which should link to other pages of major project.

  • Unknown's avatar

You cannot do that. Pages and posts are entirely different and work in different ways.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok.
Posts on home is appearing full.
How can it get display only initial part?

  • Unknown's avatar

Either change themes or use the MORE tag, the button above the Write Post box that looks like a dotted line crossing a piece of paper. Put the cursor where you want the break, click the button, and you’re done.

    @ oasiswebsite,

You described your design support requests more completely in the topic Secondary side bar in Oxygen theme, so I’m going to quote your itemized list given there, then respond to them, with the order slightly revised, one-by-one, for each of the two themes Oxygen and Blissful Blog.

    Hi Friends,
I need help in the following things in Blissful blog theme or Oxygen theme.
    1. Set Slider (of 7-8 sticky posts) and Table on Home page. Table with Images and text which links to other pages/posts.
    2. Show only initial content instead of full content of each post (with Read more button)
    3. Customize the Title & text that appear with Slider.
I am ready for CSS customization or change theme.
    Can you help please?
    My blog post is https://oasiswebsite.wordpress.com/

    Oxygen:

    1. a. Set Post Slider and b. customize the post slider title and text
    2. Table with images and text which links to pages and post
    3. Show initial content instead of full content of each post

    1. a. Set Post Slider

    Steps:
    i. Create at least two posts with featured images and make them sticky. From the WordPress.com page on the Oxygen theme:

Featured Images appear in the featured slider in the Showcase Page template, or as a post thumbnail in your list of Recent Articles…The Showcase Page template (see below) offers a featured slider for up to six Sticky Posts that have a Featured Image at least 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.

ii. create a page and assign it to the Showcase Page Template in the Page Attributes module. The showcase page will display your post slider. The “recent articles” section which comes below the post slider contains a certain number of recent non-featured posts in reverse chronological order. See following relevant support forum topic: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/show-more-than-3-recent-articles-in-oxygen-theme?replies=2.

iii. Set your front page to display a static page at the top of Settings > Reading. You might want to call this page “Home.” Also create another page that will display your posts, and assign it to do so at the Reading Settings page. The front page can be your Showcase Page, but doesn’t have to be.

    b. Customize the post slider title and text — Only the title and the date appear on the images in the post slider. I presume you’ll need a Custom Design upgrade to modify what displays here. Of course, either the title or the date can be changed at any time.

    2. Creating tables: The only way I know how to construct tables is rather tedious for big jobs. See the comment by timethief in the following topic: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/easy-tables-from-word-press?replies=3

    3. Show post excerpts — raincoaster gave you the proper instructions in your recent post “help me custom won’t work.”

    Blissful Blog:

    1. a.

    i. Create at least two posts (sticky or not) with featured images that comply with the following size specifications, from the WordPress page on the Blissful Blog theme: “The Featured Content Slider images are a minimum of 920 wide by 640 tall.”

ii. Set your front page to display a static page at the top of Settings > Reading. You might want to call this page “Home.” Also create another page that will display your posts, and assign it to do so at the Reading Settings page.

    b. Customizing the post slider title and text — The title and a couple of lines of text display over (overlaying) the images in the post slider. The text shown is the topmost content from the post editor. To “customize” what is displayed, you can edit it at the source, or get a Custom Upgrade so you can tell the post slider what to display.

    2. Creating tables — Same as Oxygen theme

    3. Show post excerpts — Same as Oxygen theme

    Good luck!

    Thanks. Its done.
How can I reduce a number of recent posts visible on home page?
Also How can I hide date of post? How to hide title of post?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @oasiswebsite,

How can I reduce a number of recent posts visible on home page?

Blissful Blog doesn’t have the “recent articles” and “more articles” features that Oxygen has, so I presume you’re just referring to the number posts to display on a page setting. That is found at Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Scroll down to “Blog pages show at most” and change the number to your desired setting, then click on save changes at the bottom of the page.

Also How can I hide date of post?

Do you mean hide it on all posts, or on the post slider? If the later, then this doesn’t pertain to the Blissful Blog post slider. Oxygen’s post slider displays the post dates. As I said above, I believe this modification will require a Custom Design upgrade.

How to hide title of post?

    Custom design, again.

    Thanks musicdoc1,
    It was helpful.
How to go ahead with Custom Design upgrade?
DO you mean I need to upgrade to Premium plan from Business plan?

    @musicdoc1
We are in the process of setting of blog.
I had recently shifted from Oxygen theme to Blissful Blog. But looking to the comments and suggestions you gave I intend to go back to Oxygen theme if the following 2 problems are resolved.
    1. Can I remove either of Left or Right Widget completely? Not even blank space there?
    2. I want to add some describing text in Slider of sticky posts. How is it possible. I dont want to show date of update. Instead I want to show some description of post. How to do that?
‘Thanks for patiently listening/reading and understanding for help.

DO you mean I need to upgrade to Premium plan from Business plan?

No. I’m a volunteer, and unaware you what plan you may or may not have paid for. From the Custom Design support page:

As of September 1, 2014, Custom Design is now a feature of the WordPress.com Premium and WordPress.com Business. You may choose one of the plans listed at http://wordpress.com/plans/.

See also the Custom CSS support page.

Removing space is CSS design work. I don’t know anything about that. There are special forums for CSS customization, and Themes issues, here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/.
However, out of curiosity I removed the only three widgets in my test site using the Oxygen theme. Guess what? The widgets, all the links in those three inactive widgets, somehow still appear in the sidebars! I don’t know why.

I want to add some describing text in Slider of sticky posts. How is it possible. I dont want to show date of update. Instead I want to show some description of post. How to do that?

I just tried adding tags and categories to the sticky, featured posts of the post slider. They displayed in tags archives, and categories archives, respectively, but not on the slider. I think this is more CSS styling or whatever its called.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, I forgot. Some of those widgets disappeared when I added a new one. But the Links (Blogroll) remained. Weird.

I’m going to have to say Goodnight. Very late on the West Coast. Will check in tomorrow to see how you’re doing. :)

Correction. What I did was add descriptions to the tags and categories of the stick, featured posts of the slider. That didn’t work. Only displayed on archives pages.
