Help Me Help a Reader!
-
I have a loyal reader named fred. He wants an Avatar. He has a WordPress.com blog. He couldn’t get his Avatar to work.
Today I fixed his Avatar and, with his permission, logged into his account and uploaded his Avatar and then I went to my site and posted a couple of test messages that proved his Avatar was, indeed, working.
Now he says his Avatar won’t load. I know he is not logged in, though he claims he is logged in. I cannot think of a different way to try to help him because the problem is on his end and not on ours.
If you have a moment, could you please go here:
http://urbansemiotic.com/2006/11/30/lindsay-lohan-proves-her-illiteracy/
and read the comments near the end between fred and me trying to figure out what he is doing wrong and then either help him directly there or tell me here what I should tell him and I’ll try to explain what else he should be doing.
I’m obviously missing something vital in getting this to click for him…
You can see two messages from me “as fred” where his keen Avatar does, indeed, load just fine.
Thanks!

I have answered but the comment is “awaiting moderation”.
For info I posted:
——————-
Hi Guys.Came here from the forum thread. The only thing I can see is that Fred is linking to a post on his blog and not the main blog itself.
Fred – Go to your dashboard, then go to users.
Where it says your name, to the right there is a link that says “EDIT”. Click it and then look at the line that says “website”.
You (I think) have
in there at the moment. Change it to
http://pareidolia.wordpress.com
and then (scrolling down if you need to) press “update user” on the bottom right hand corner.
It’s the only thing that I can see that might be wrong.
David – I think that Fred is logged in as the link is the same in every one of his comments.
See how that goes and I’ll pop back in the morning (it’s 22.40 here) and see if that fixed it.
All the best.
Collin

Thanks Collin, you are super. I replied to you in my blog thread.
First time commenters are moderated, then you’re in — so thanks for taking the time to help fred!

Are you aware if you post a message here but don’t check it as a support message when your message posts you cannot mark it “resolved” later?
I just tested it again in my “One Moment Please…” comment and the “resolved” mark didn’t take again because I also tried it earlier this morning and it didn’t work then, either.

Collin —
Thank you again for your proactive, positive help. Fred is now back today and happily posting with his Avatar!

Hmm, actually the original poster should be able to mark it as resolved.
*shrug* Done now though. :)
