Help, messed up domain by mapping to wrong thing!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased credits and mapped it to our website domain. instead of a subdomain. On my domain host, I took off the info to have wordpress directed to my domain, but it is still being redirected to our main domain :( How do I fix this and how can I keep my domain for oour website and just have it redirected to a subdomain? :(

  • Unknown's avatar

What’s the subdomain? I’ll fix it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    the subdomain is blog.oasiscovenant.org

now, do I put the wordpress stuff back.
that should not affect the regular site, correct?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Nothing will be affected.

You need to change the DNS for the main domain back to what it was so the original site is restored.
The change the settings for the subdomain (check the faq)
and once that is done, post back here?

Ok, I need to go to church, I added the ns1.wordpress ns2.wordpress.com and ns3.wordpress.com. This will not still direct it to the oasiscovenant.org, just to blog.oasiscovenant.org. because blog.oasiscovenant.org is under that server.

The subdomain needs a different method:

    blog.oasiscovenant.org. IN CNAME oasiscov.wordpress.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

how do I do this :(
    this is what I found

    http://kb.mediatemple.net/article.php?id=007

I am on the phone with my server, what should I tell him :)

You have been so helpful, thank you thank you :)

You need to talk to mt. Their docs aren’t looking so good there.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, I think I may have found something.

under zone in oasiscovenant.org, I can change something to blog.oasiscovenant.org
a place for Type / CName and then a place for Data for ISP maybe. Is this where I should be working from.

Also, what are you getting for http://oasiscovenant.org I am still getting the Blog :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    Help please :(

It appears that the redirect to our webpage is still going to the blog.

I think I did the Cname correctly. We shall see :( just need it switched to blog.oasiscovenant.org

Worked for me. blog.* goes to the wp blog and the domain goes to the domain. You may need to clear your computer’s DNS cache though.

If you’re on a PC with windows, open up a prompt and type the following:

    ipconfig /flushdns

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh wonderful!!!!! I feel so stupid, how do O open up a prompt ;p LOL

Thank you sooo much. I cannot recieve email, my FTP is not working but only for my oasiscovenant site :p

    Thanks, Laura

I found it, thanks :) lets see if that works :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Nope, same, so I need to restart?

  • Unknown's avatar

Shouldn’t but go ahead and try. The record is correct although I don’t know why all those master DNS records are in there for.

  • Unknown's avatar

I restarted, did not help. This is on all our computers linked by wireless, so I am not sure it is not a internet problem. It definitely is stuck. Hey does the wordpress options under domain still have the oasiscovent.org, because it still shows it for me. I do not see the blog.oasiscovenant.org

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok, lets start again.

When you visit Dashboard -> Upgrades -> domains, what is the specific URL that you’ve entered into the form? Is it blog.oasiscovenant.org or oasiscovenant.org?

What do you want it to be?

I’m showing that blog.oasiscovenant.org is your wp.com blog and the link i showed you shows that.

It may be an issue with your wireless.

Can you open up a prompt and type the following and give back what it says please. Just the number that will look like this is fine: 12.34.56.78

    ping blog.oasiscovenant.org

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, What you and the rest of the word is seeing is exactly what I want, I am just not seeing it :(

when I click dashboard/ options/ domain/ it shows redirection to oasiscovenant.org which is NOT what I want. but that is what I see.

When I did the control prompt
    it said
    72.232.101.40
    replied 4 times TTL=47

The subdomain is now added back, and the ‘Put blog here’ will work.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, now I see it, can you take off the oasiscovenant.org :) I know this is my issure, but now when I go to oasiscovenant.org it takes me to blog.oasiscovenant.org :p

Pain in my butt, why is this not working for me :(
