Help moving from .org to .com
-
Hi
I see there is a guided service when moving from .com to .org, but I would like help moving the other way. I have a self hosted site, on a word press theme that I would like moved into .com anyway anyone can help?I am not capable of doing this. IT challenged etc etc I WILL PAY anything to avoid the circle jerk of the WP support link that goes nowhere and has me crying in frustration. I asked this question many months ago and was replied to, but could never find where the reply went, (IT Challenged remember) my email is (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Thanks so much
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Here is the relevant link from 4 months ago: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/
when you are logged in if you click on your name in the upper right corner of the forum page you will see a list of all the threads you have posted into: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/tinkseyeview
Sort of in a nutshell
you need to make a blog here at WordPress.COM (looks like someone already has /tinkstravels.wordpress.com/ – but is seems abandoned – maybe you can get them to transfer it to you – or pick another name since domain mapping will cover up the base blog
The theme does not matter a great deal because it can be easily changed – but if you find one that you like – that is great
Export your old blog
Import to the new blog here – make sure you click on the box to transfer the media (pictures)
Buy domain mapping ($13.-/yr)
Change the name servers to point to WordPress.COM
Wait 24 to 72 hours for changes to move across the internet and you are good to go
bit more work if you have an email address – some email solutions are free some cost a bit
Sorry the staff will not move your site onto WordPress.COM for you
There is a listing over at WordPress.ORG under Code Poets that you might be able to find some help
the folks in the forum are pretty helpful and the staff do check into the forum and also help if you run into problems
If you type “modlook” in as a tag in the forum that will ask the staff for help here
Good luck

Thank you, I do not understand 90% of what you said unfortunately.
I will go and look for code poets to see if anyone can help.
I really don’t understand the lack of help from WordPress though. I want to buy a premium whatever it is and pay wordpress 85£ a year. Not a fortune but I’m not used to paying anything and getting no help whatsoever *pulls hair out*

read the link I gave above – there are some screen shots of what needs to be done
the staff will help – but they don’t have a service to move you from a WordPress.ORG install onto WordPress.COM
Export / import is not very hard – but the first time it can be a bit scary (I speak from personal experience)
if the import were to go way wrong – the staff should be able to clear all the data from the site here for you to start over
mostly it is following the instructions exactly
as long as you don’t delete your current site nothing bad can happen to your current site – so you can leave the old site up until you have the new site the way you want it
You can set any site here to “Private” to keep everyone out if you want until you have the move done and things looking the way you want (Dashboard >> Home >> Settings >> Reading >> Make site visible to only those I choose – – remember to save changes)
I will flag this for staff attention to see if they have any SIMPLE words of wisdom for you

Thank you, you are very kind.
I have imported and exported and I probably own the original tinkstravels on wordpress but have my own domain Tinkseyeview that I want on the wordpress.com website anyway but it has not come over as it was, even though I have a wordpress theme so it’s a right royal mess now.
I’m on twitter with a few followers so will ask if anyone knows anyone who wants to earn some money putting it right. My usual go to guy is seriously ill, hence me needing support.
Thanks again for trying.

You need a base blog here to import into (your-site.wordpress.com) – then the domain mapping changes the name your visitors see when they visit ( tinkstravels.com. )
if you think you setup and own /tinkstravels.wordpress.com/ –
try and recover it

Hi @tinkseyeview, can you start by making a new, blank site here?
When that’s done, let us know and we’ll have you send us an export file.

Hi
I seem to have lost all access to my website and it is not showing on the internet. The dangers of trying to do it yourself when your seemingly intelligent mind goes blank at the first wordpress instruction. Where my site is hosted are away so, yeah, I guess I majorly screwed up 😳

What is that? It will not load on pc, ipad or iphone or in the wp app for me. Either as tinkstravels.com or with /wp-admin

Hi @tinkseyeview, I can view it here too. Can you get in touch with your host? They may have suspected trouble and blocked you inadvertently.
