Help – Moving over to Bluehost from WordPress.com

I really need help with becoming self hosted.

I am currently free hosting on WordPress.com & I own my domain, through WordPress.com but now I’m ready to move to WordPress.org

I have purchased my hosting for 3 years with Bluehost.com but now I am stuck with moving my domain since it is already purchased.

I have been told – If I want to change registrar (which I would prefer anyway) I would have to contact WordPress.com & my site will be down for 5 days. I’ve emailed WordPress.com but I only received a reply 3 days later and the reply was not what I was looking for so I have replied a couple of times and not received anything. So I’m a bit stuck.

I then decided I’d just point my domain towards Bluehost as it ‘should’ be a lot simpler – turns out it’s not? Bluehost have told me to do this I need to contact WordPress (again) and tell them what I would like to do. This means that my site will go down for 2 days.

I would much prefer to point my domain to Bluehost, and do it over the weekend so that my blog will be back up and running by Monday. Plus, it’s less fuss.

I have contacted WordPress again to no avail, I feel like am stuck right now paying for a host that I don’t think I can use. Every chat that I have had with Bluehost has just confused me even more and now I have no idea at all what I am doing.

Please can someone help me to understand what I need to do.. Sorry I am so useless haha!

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

I see you’re already being helped via email. Please wait for a reply there. Creating new tickets or repeated replies to an old one only makes it take longer for you to get help.
