Help needed please – email button not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just sat and – I thought – sent a post on a friend’s blog to 85 email addresses using the email button. Apparently even though they seemed to be sent OK, they weren’t.

A complete waste of an hour’s hard work if ever there was one.

I am not quite sure why this should be, especially when it said the email was sent, but it wasn’t.

Does anyone know the answer to what could have gone wrong with this?

Whoops I should have said the name of the blog was nourishingsap.com.

I also tried reloading the page but it was the same result.

I then sent three test emails to three different addresses which looked as if they had been sent, but never got there. These three email addresses were tested just beforehand and just after and were working fine.

Also I sent an email from my blog and it worked fine.

    1. What is the URL of your friend’s blog, starting with http:// to make it clickable?
    2. Where (on what screen) did you use the “email button”?

  • Hi there, the email button below each post isn’t intended to send out mass invitations to a site – it’s intended for one person to use once, to send a post of interest to someone. If you tried to use it 85 times in succession, it’s very possible that our automated anti-spam mechanisms prevented some of those emails from going out.

Thanks for the answer, although disappointing.

It would be nice if people knew that the email button only worked once per (whatever?) as I’m sure most wouldn’t know that.

The answer doesn’t really add up as I don’t understand what the sense is in putting a spam blockers to prevent people sending more than one email at once?

Would anyone in their right mind sit there and fill out 85 email addresses and recaptchas for SPAM?

Why bother doing that when they could just easily replicate the post and send it bcc en masse to hundreds of addresses IN A FLASH?

I will go and send the post via the usual route, but it is very disappointing that the email button doesn’t work for more than one address as I would imagine there are many instances when people have thought they sent a post to several email addresses and they never found out that they didn’t get ever there!

It doesn’t make any sense to me, unless I am missing something here?

yes I can believe they would – create a spam Post then send it to a pile of email addresses. WordPress.COM has several anti-spam features, all put there in response to abuse by people.

Another one for example, all subscriptions are opt-in so I can’t subscribe you to a blog here unless you click on the “yes I want to subscribe” link in the emai

  • I understand that you’re frustrated, but unfortunately we do need to have these spam-prevention mechanisms in place to prevent abuse.

Sending out a mass bcc email is a better way to invite folks to a new site.

You could also use the Invite Users feature we have built in under Users > Invite New, which is intended for this purpose.

    https://endtimesinformation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=wpcom-invite-users

Keep the “Follower” role selected in the dropdown menu. This will prompt users to follow your new site in their WordPress.com reader, or by email.

Thank goodness subscriptions are all “opt-in”. In the brief window of time Staff made the default opt-out thses support forums were besieged by legions of bloggers, myself among them, who were not impressed by the sudden change and were extremely angry about receiving a barrage of unexpected email. Thankfully Staff heard us and changed the default back to opt-in.

    I simply don’t understand.

Who in their right mind is going to sit there clicking key after key to send one email, when they could send millions with one click?

I am so tired though I don’t know if I even care.

It’s pretty hopeless trying to understand what is going on here as it just can’t make any sense.

It just sounds like madness to me….

  • Trying to understand how spammers think is impossible. :-)

Hopefully the bulk-email and “Invite Users” feature meet your needs in the future.

No one is saying spammers would think it impossible.

It would just be incredibly stupid to send out spam that way and who in their right mind is going to do it?

Anyway as I said on the other thread, I give up, you win, whatever.

I’ll use other means and know next time that I can’t rely on what I see when it comes to WordPress buttons and messages on screens which say things they don’t mean or say something has happened when it hasn’t.

    You live and learn.
