Help needed to restore recently deleted photos from media library

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently made the mistake of deleting many historical photos from my media library while working on a new post. I’ve only now realized that this also deleted those photos from any prior posts that I had embedded them in. I am at a complete loss. Is it possible to revert my blog to the state it was in certain number of days ago — e.g., like you can do with Windows — so that I could regain most of it and then just re-enter the newer posts from scratch? Perhaps a backup that you’ve taken on your servers could be restored? I’m willing to pay for any additional service that you can offer to help with this! The blog is http://atleventphotography.wordpress.com Thank you!

Is it possible to pay for a one-time live chat session tomorrow with a WordPress support engineer to try to resolve this as quickly as possible?

I have seen a restore happen I think once for deleted photos in my four years helping in the forum, at this point Google Cache is your best friend

I have flagged this for staff attention but they are somewhat backed up at this point

I suggest you Google for those images and restore them from the Google Cache. That’s going to get them restored faster than by waiting for staff help. You could even pay a virtual assistant to do this for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I blog for a local photography firm so the posts are made up of many different photo galleries that I’ve created in WP. I have access to all of the original photos but I have no idea which photos I originally pulled for each post (from hundreds of possible photos in our repository for each post) and how I arranged them. Very time consuming, needless to say! I’m spending some time with Google Cache right now but so far not getting anywhere. Thanks again!

Nonetheless, Google’s cache will help you figure out which photos were displayed in which post and you can simply upload those images again.

For anyone who works with dozens or hundreds of images on their site, I would suggest creating a site upload folder with sub-folders on your hard drive and use a naming convention like the post date to name the sub-folder. Inside the folder, I arrange the images in the order I want to upload them and then rename the images with the post name, abbreviated if necessary. It has saved me countless times.

Once images have been deleted from the Media library, we cannot recover them for you.

Google may be your best bet, if your posts have been cached there.

Hi Jackie – this would have been a nice time for the OP to have had the ability to copy all their medial library (like FTP but the same function) – that several of us have suggested and lobbied for in the forum – so if you could please put a couple of more marks on the wall or where ever they are recorded for that function to be added?

    thanks

We know it’s a popular request, and we would like to make it happen. It’s not a quick or easy thing to do, however, so it may be a while before it becomes a reality.

I know it’s not quick – but from time to time I like to get the sharp stick out and poke things to make sure the request has not been forgotten :)

And given that the blogs here are getting older and have more history and memories in them, the faster people upgrade their personal computers the more the memories get moved to the backups of the backups to the backups at home – then add the mobile computing and ability to post from a phone – the more the file download & backup appeals to many of us

    thanks again
