Help needed with API key screwup
-
Greetings,
I’ve had a wordpress-hosted blog for quite a while now. I am in the process of transferring to self-hosting. In the process of installing plugins for the new self-hosted blog, I think I grabbed the api key for my old wordpress hosted blog account and pasted it into my new self-hosted blog’s Akismet plug-in. What I’m seeing is when I log into my old account, my new blog all of a sudden is showing up in my global dashboard, and I am unable to log into the new self-hosted blog.
I’d obviously like to avoid posting account and user names for all to see, but I’d really like to get this resolved. HELP!

If you installed Akismet on your self-hosted blog, it would work when you put in your Akismet key. Nothing tied to wordpress.com other than the key. Simple.
If your blog is showing up in your global dashboard here at wordpress.com then I already know that you installed the wordpress.com stats plugin as that is the only way your self-hosted blog gets listed here. A good plugin for sure. What it does though, is add a link to your self-hosted blog the way you mentioned above. It doesn’t show for everyone else, but as an admin of that blog, it shows up.
Does that help with the confusion?

Sorry…in addition.
You have the “stats” tab in your self-hosted blog that brings up a page to see your wordpress.com stats. You have to login on that page with your wordpress.com information. The login for your self-hosted blog is the same. Those 2 accounts are not related in the least bit, so don’t worry! There is no “syncing” of logins or anything!

Trent – I guess it makes sense. It was wordpress stats that I was trying to install. My issue is that I still can’t log in to my self-hosted blog. I’ve been working on it for around a month now so I know I haven’t forgotten my login credentials (not to mention I use RoboForm) and it seems kind of conincedental that I install this plugin, and all of a sudden I can’t login.
Anything else I should be looking at?

On your self-hosted blog I would use the forgot password link from your login screen. You will be able to find other answers for that issue over at http://wordpress.org/support/ as well since that really is out of the scope of these forums I am afraid :)
