HELP?! new user having difficulty getting set-up!
-
Okay, so I’m new to this site, and pretty new to the whole idea of “Blogging” in the first place. Basically what I’ve got a problem with is this: I want to have separate pages (ie I’m posting poems of mine on a page which, coincidently enough, is named ‘Poems’) and then place posts, which are the poems, on this page, but I can’t seem to get this to work, as it keeps posting to my homepage. any advice? thanks in advance for any assistance I can get! :D
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First of all take a look at this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ .
Pages and posts are two different things. You cannot post to pages that you create.
The way to separate posts into subjects is to use categories. You assign the appropriate category to each of your posts, and then add the categories widget to the sidebar and when people click on a category in the widget, they get a listing of only the posts in that particular category.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/With the theme you are using, there is a trick that you can use to put links to your categories into the top navigation tabs: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/page-tabs-as-external-links/ . Note that this does not work in all themes, only the themes listed in the left-hand column of the blog post I referenced.
As an alternate, with the iNove theme, you can choose whether you want the top navigation tabs to be categories or pages (appearance > iNove theme options).

One other thing I’ll offer is that using pages for your content has some drawbacks you should be aware of:
1. Pages will show up lower in search engine results because search engines place lower emphasis on pages. Pages are meant for static content. For some types of sites, this may actually be the best way of presenting the material though.
2. When you publish a post, wordpress automatically “pings” all the major search engines to let them know you have published a new post so that they can index it. When you publish a page, wordpress does NOT “ping” the search engines. You will have to ping manually at a service such as pingomatic.com.
3. Only posts show up on an RSS feed, pages do not. That means people cannot subscribe to your blog so that they are alerted when you add something new.
4. You can assign categories and tags to posts to help the search engines properly place you in search results. Pages cannot have tags or categories as they sit outside the blog structure.
