HELP: New WordPress site with a current domain

    I am in the process of helping a client with a new WordPress website after a spit in the company itself to retail and B2B (2 websites). The client would like a completely new look and feel to the website to differentiate, so I was hoping to use a nice new theme and freshen up the website. The current website will switch to another domain. I am now wondering what the best way to do this is. Would you recommend I start building in WordPress with a new theme and add this domain to the new WordPress theme later in the process after it has been unlocked by the hosting? I was also wondering which plan you would advice me to use here and what are the annual costs expected? My client wants to keep the current hosting company as they do their job well and have a great customer service, so it would just be the website for wordpress costs.

    What you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a .wordpress.com or a .home.blog subdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.

    Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over once it is unlocked:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

    Or, until it is unlocked, you can map the domain and use it with the site:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    I was also wondering which plan you would advice me to use here and what are the annual costs expected?

    It really depends on what type of business site you’re needing to have. For example, if you are needing to sell a product or service from your site, the Business Plan may be a good option for you:
