Help noob in trouble!
-
Hey guys I need some advice, I’m not an HTML expert, but am learning; I am new to WordPress though.
I need help inserting a simple background to my blog. Also, do any of you know of a website that hosts free HTML coding that is compatible with wordpress? (one that would have pre-made backgrounds, tables, banners, etc?)
Sorry to trouble ya’ll, and thanks in advance for the time!!

If you are referring to the blog linked to your username wearing the Twenty Theme then it does have the option of changing the backgorund color or uploading one here. > Appearance > Themes > Background
There’s alive demo theme showcase here and you can use the feature filters to locate themes that meet your reuirements. many themes here do allow for custom image headers. “Banners” is usually a word that means a header image linked to an affiliate site or advertising site and we cannot advertize on wordpress.com blogs. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/As for your second question the only free hosted blogs that I know of that one can hack the crap out of is Blogger (blogspot blogs).

You are using 2010, and can add a background image at appearance > background in your dashboard. A few suggestions on backgrounds. The image file size should be under 100k in size or it will adversely affect your blog loading times and also could get your blog search engine ranking discounted since search engines now look at page loading times when determining ranking.
I prefer, whenever possible, to use small tiled backgrounds since the file sizes are typically in the 10 to 20k file size range. With tiled background images, the image only has to load once and is then repeated by the browser as needed.
There are a number of online HTML table generators that you can use that will generate the code for you and all you have to do is enter the parameters. Do a search for “HTML table generator” and you will get a number of hits.
As far as code for widgets and such, that is all dependent on what you want to do. There are limitations on the code you can use here and the restrictions are outlined in this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ . Basically you just need to search for what you want to do. Anywhere you find “script” or “embed” or “object” in the code, it isn’t going to work here. Although flash is not directly supported here, it can be embedded using the gigya shortcode in most cases.

ok, so will this apply also if I want to insert a backgroung to a post? Or do I need to do something different there? I have an English Essay due, and I want to add a background to the post I made for it (white is a bit harsh on the eyes). Like I said, I’m new, so I’m still trying to figure all the gadgets out. (As far as I know, there could be a button right in front of me that’ll be the answer to my silly questions). I tried to insert an HTML for a pre-made background, and all my work dissapeared.
Sorry to bother y’all, but thanks again!!

Alrighty, thank you so much!
Sadly, my ancient laptop can’t handle me trying to do all this. So, hopefully I can get this resovled at school, (thats what I get for using my dad’s Compaq ARMADA E500…)
Thank you so much! (I even saved the hyperlink!)
