HELP! Photo captions not appearing in blog post emails
-
Hi,
For some reason, any text that I enter directly under a photo (to act as a caption) does not appear in the emailed version of my blog posts. The caption is there in the web version, but gone in the emails. I write using the Classic editor, and my process is to insert an image at the top of the post, then write a line of caption text below it (set to H5), then the rest of the blog post follows. I have tried using the Block editor to insert a separate block for the caption, but it too fails to appear in emails. Any ideas?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there!
Yes, you’re absolutely right, but this isn’t a bug but how it is expected to work. The elements you observe on your blog, such as a featured post image or captions on an image, are displayed and styled based on the theme you have chosen.
However, it’s important to note that email programs do not have access to the theme styling or code. Consequently, regardless of how you configure it, those features will not be visible in an email.
I hope this explanation brings clarity to the matter. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Ah, so its not a bug, it’s a feature… Is there any way to get a line of text in the vicinity of a photo to show up in an email? I tried putting the caption on top of the photo today, and it too disappeared in the email.

Hi there,
You could test putting a sentence in a Paragraph Block close to the image. If you’re interested in having fuller control over the layouts of the emails, and even being able to fully customize them, you could use MailPoet:
https://www.mailpoet.com/It would require a switch to the Business Plan since a plugin is used for MailPoet.
You can learn more about the Business Plan to see if it aligns with other things you’d like to accomplish on your site:

Hi again. I thought I’d share a solution I found for this captioning problem. After I insert a photo into the layout, if I put a soft-return (shift-return) after the photo and then type the caption, the caption magically appears on email posts! I can even style it as desired. Who knew!
Cheers,John

Hi there!
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that with the forum readers. :)
What’s happening there is, technically, the text is not added as a caption to the image, but rather, text that appears after/below the image itself. I know that sounds the same as the caption, but there’s a slight difference in how they are rendered (or how they are coded), which is what makes it work.
I’m glad you found the workaround, though! And as a fellow photography enthusiast, I love your different take on posting weather updates with photos you took. Nice!
