Help please!

  I have a WordPress site which was purchased from WordPress.org. I have downloaded the WordPress app to help me edit the site on iPad as I was having problems. It now seems I need a WordPress.com account to be able to do this. I am being asked to ‘map my domain’ and then contact the company that I registered the domain with to point my servers towards WordPress.com. Is all this necessary to use the app?!

  Hi @paullargent – You do need a WordPress.com account to use a number of products of Automattic. You DO NOT need to map your self hosted domain over to WordPress.com. I believe you are seeing the instructions to get set up on WordPress.com, but i’m not sure why.

  Have you tried to uninstall the app and start over?

  Many thanks for the quick response. I have yes. The problem is when I try to login on the app, nothing that I use for my website is recognised. I then read that wordpress.org is a seperate entity from wordpress.com. What do I need to do to be able to use the app please?

  You are correct. WordPress.org and WordPress.com are separate. This information explains some of their differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  I found this i0s forum where you can post. It may be more helpful: http://ios.forums.wordpress.org/

  The information in the App store says that the App is compatible for both WordPress.org and WordPress.com. Try downloading the app from this link for your i0s device: https://apps.wordpress.com/mobile/

  Lastly, I am going to ask Staff for help. I have tagged this thread ‘modlook’. That will notify them that you are in need of their help. They will contact you here. They have more insight as to why you are being asked to map your domain and such.

  I just logged all the way out of the WordPress app on my iPhone. When you are at the blue login screen do you see at the bottom “add a self-hosted site”? If you click that link It will populate a WordPress.org login screen. There’s also a white question mark in the upper left corner that will link you to support for the app.
