Help please
-
I have tried both Firefox and Chrome browsers;
have cleared caches; have the browser settings ok;
am using the WordPress https:// and have followed
the help sections directions, but sadly I have still not
managed to insert a link into my posts nor pages, all
that happens is either the letters of the link are visible
but do not change to blue, so not useable, or the nothing
is visible.
Please can someone help,
Thanks,

Hi. Have you tried these instructions?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#how-to-create-linksP.S. Please give better titles to your future topics. Example: “problem inserting links”.
-
Try inserting links from the HTML tab. Switch to the HTML tab, highlight the text you want to use as a link, click the link button, put in the URL for the link and click the insert or OK button, or whatever it is called. See if you can do it that way.

Hi airodyssey,
thanks for replying, yes that was the help page I followed, I did everything it showed but it did not work for me.
Yes I will give better titles in future, promise.Hi thesacredpath,
thankyou too for replying, I have tried both the visual and the HTML, and tried both copy and pasting, and tying it in letter by letter but no success yet.
I really stumped to know what’s causing it :( -
What is the exact link you’re trying to put in? Paste it here for us EXACTLY as you put it in the Link information in your post.
-
Now that’s nice that it went blue, that is an improvement on what I had before, and it does work when I click on it, but why has it called itself null?
-
I went away then happily to my blog but sadly found that in html I get still get nothing at all, and in visual the add link button has just greyed out completely and is now unusable, nope I still have a slightly dysfunctioning blog :(
-
Found a partial solution –
though links will not appear on posts,
they will appear on comments,
so I’m adding them by leaving a comment
on my own posts, daft but true lol.
Not doing too bad for a newbie :D -
No, I don’t mean format the link and everything. I mean give us the exact sequence of letters and numbers you’re using as the link. Like http://raincoaster.com/about or whatever.
-
Also, your blog looks like you’re pasting in from something like Word. That can cause problems: go to your Dashboard->Settings->General and make sure you’ve selected “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML” which might help in future.
-
Aah sorry raincoaster here is the letter sequence
http://www,gratefulness.org/candles/enter.cfm?l=eng
I did try to paste something in from word the other day, but each time I tried, word stopped functioning. I will go to the dashboard and look at the settings to make sure they are as you say, then will return.
Thankyou for taking the time to help me, I appreciate it ;) -
The proper link is not http://www%2Cgratefulness.org/candles/enter.cfm?l=eng
it is http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/enter.cfm?l=eng
Is that perchance a link from a newsletter or an affiliate link of some kind?
-
It’s strange how I can just type out letters here and they turn themselves into an instant link, without even having to hit the link button :)
I went to dashboard and changed settings to those as listed above as advised, thanks for that, I hope pasting from Word will work now.
Still no joy as yet with inserting links into posts, will try logging off and closing this browser to clear it, but it’s ok if it doesn’t work as at least I have found a way to add links by comment box, which is a lot better than nothing.
Thankyou for helping me :)

The forum here will turn anything preceeded by http:// into a link, whether it works or not.
To paste from Word, use the Paste from Word icon, which is in the second row of icons in the visual editor. If you only have one row, then click the last icon (the Kitchen Sink icon) and that will open up a new row of icons, Paste from word is the one that is a clipboard with a W on it.
