Help please! How do I select which image is the thumbnail on summary page?
-
Hi All
I’m hoping you might be able to help me – as you will no doubt guess I’m a completely newbie when it comes to using WP, and have zero coding experience.
I’ve being struggling on with my blog, but one thing which really bugs me is that the summary/excerpt for each new post seems to use a random image from within those on my post for the thumbnail, and of course sod’s law is that it’s quite often one I don’t want to use.
How can I select which image from within that post is then used on my front page for the summary/excerpt?
Thanks in advance

Hi Adam,
What you will want to do is manually select a featured image for each post. Here is a guide to Featured Images.
Good luck!

Hi – thanks for your quick reply! I’d already tried that and it doesn’t work – if I select a featured image for a post it just changes the banner image within that post (which I don’t want to do) and doesn’t alter the thumbnail image for that post shown on the front page.
For example I’ve just done that on my most recent post, and you’ll see the banner image within the post itself has changed to the selected featured image (stained glass window detail), but not the front page thumbnail… what am I doing wrong?
Thanks

You’re not doing anything wrong except using a theme that handles Featured Images in a certain way. There is nothing much you can do about that other than change themes.

Yeah, that’s the best I can come up with too. With Twenty Eleven, it doesn’t appear to handle Featured Images in the way you’d like it to perform.

In the past month I’ve used two different premium themes and they each handled featured images differently. Very annoying.
