Help! Post Format not supported in Adelle theme?
-
Hi i’ve searched the forums, and I noticed there was another post, but the answer was not satisfactory to me. When you download this theme, it says all formats supported and in the demo, you can see it pictured with all the different formats.
When I post, all I see is the entire post on the main page. I only want gallery format or a snippet of my post so that they can click into the actual post to read.
another user had suggested using the add more tag, but that to me still looks sloppy and inconsistent. How do I get the other formats to work particularly the “gallery” format.
My website is http://www.markedbybeauty.com. I only have a sample post with giberish in it that’s visible.
Please help! Thanks

I would like it to show one picture in the top left corner of the post, and a paragraph of my blog. I know I used to have this in another theme. Not too sure if it was the “gallery” format or not.

If you downloaded Adelle from the Theme Showcase here at WordPress.com, and you have Jetpack installed (which I see you have) you can see a sample of a what a Gallery post looks like on the main page if the Adelle Demo site under “Pretty florals” at: http://adelledemo.wordpress.com , or by going to the “Pretty Florals” single post page at: http://adelledemo.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/pretty-florals/ .
For themes downloaded from the WordPress.com Theme Showcase, this page explains how post formats work. You should check this and make sure you’ve set the format to gallery in the post you’d like to display using the gallery post format.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/Here’s how to add a gallery in case you need that as well:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/Adelle does not have the option to show excerpts on posts. If you want all of your posts to show excerpts on the main page, you can manually add the read more tag to your posts, or you can add that functionality into the theme by editing the theme PHP script files as explained here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_excerpt .
If you decide to add the excerpt function to Adelle, I would suggest using what is called a child theme. Here is a support page where you can learn more:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_ThemesIf you have questions about using child themes, or adding the excerpt function ask at http://wordpress.org/support/

Thank you!!I think I may know the problem. I didn’t install the theme directly from the wordpress site. rather I downloaded it and uploaded it to activate it. Could this be the reason why the formats aren’t working? I tried clicking on the link to activate through wordpress, but it won’t allow me to select my blog. Also, when I try to do a theme search for it through my dashboard area to install new themes, no searches come up for “adelle”
Would you happen to know why?

Oops! I guess it could be because I am hosting my own wordpress. not through wordpress.com?

It’s more likely that post formats in the Adelle theme aren’t doing what you were expecting. As a matter of fact, the gallery post format doesn’t look much different from a regular post in the Adelle theme. The only difference I can see is that it gets a “Gallery” label and a gallery icon.
Each theme is unique and it’s up to the theme author to decide how different post formats like the gallery post format will appear. Some can be wildly different, like the example you mentioned where you want to show one picture and an excerpt from the post, but others may have very subtle differences for different post formats as in this case.
If you want to make the gallery post formats do something other than what they are currently doing, then you would need to add custom code to do thatm and the right place to ask for help if you want to try to code it yourself would be in the volunteer-based http://wordpress.org/support/ forums or by hiring help at http://en.support.wordpress.com/customize-my-site/request-theme-customization/
