HELP! Re. Deleting Posts

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m new to this and my list of posts, published and drafts was getting a little long and messy, so I clicked on all the published posts (around 20) and deleted them from the list, thinking it would just clean it up and make it easier to see the drafts I was working on. However, today when I published my post it said that it was only the 2nd post and didn’t indicate that it was being sent out to those who have subscribed. On the blog I don’t see previous posts. What have I DONE and how can it be UNDONE QUICKLY??

    thanks,
    Laura

You have indeed deleted all your posts.

Go to Google and search for your blog, just the regular name of it. Then click not on the real copy but the Cached copy, and then you can copy all the posts that were on the front page. You have to copy/paste them back in one by one and add title, categories, and tags.

To get older posts, you’re going to have to try to remember what they were called or what they were about and do a search in google for the following:

    OldTitleOrOldSubjectMatter site:lauracrosby.wordpress.com/

That should bring them up one by one. Click on the Cached copy, and then copy/paste that as before.

At WordPress.com, deleting anything is always permanent. ANYTHING. ALWAYS.

In the future, when you just want to look at your Drafts, go to your Posts page on the Dashboard and there are a row of buttons across the top to show All posts, Draft posts, Pending Posts, etc. Just click on what you want to see.

AAARRRRGGGH!! So frustrating, but thanks for the quick reply! Question…IF I do the work of going back and retrieving cached posts and re-entering them, won’t they be re-sent to anyone who has subscribed? Or is a way to post them as archived?

No worries, a VERY experienced friend of mine did almost exactly the same thing last week, just because it wasn’t a system she was used to.

And yes, they’ll be re-sent. But no readers I can imagine will get very pissed off.

Is there a way to temporarily disable the subscription option? Also, I can’t even seem to find a list of subscribers. Any clues? Thanks SO much.

I’ve been recreating posts and saving them as drafts, but they’re not showing up as drafts. So frustrated.

Where are they showing up? And as what? Are they in All Posts?

There’s a way to disable new subscribers, but no way to disable the option for existing subscribers.

It’s so weird. I re-created about 10 posts and saved each one as draft (til I could figure out what to do about subscribers), but now when I go to All Posts, none of the ones I just re-created show up.

Thanks for the info on subscribers. Do you know where to find a list of them – their emails? I’ve looked, but I feel like I’m missing something obvious.

Wait a minute! You said you “clicked on all the published posts (around 20) and deleted them from the list“. If you mean you went to Posts > All Posts, ticked the squares and selected “Send to Trash” from the Bulk Edit pulldown, then your posts haven’t been deleted – you can find them in your trash folder and restore them.

What? I tried that once and there was nothing there. Oh well, probably another example of my out of date information.

  • Unknown's avatar

YES, YES, YES!!! THE LOST HAS BEEN FOUND!! All I had to do is go to Trash and click on “restore” for each post. SOOOOOO grateful!!!! Thanks so much for all your help!

Sorry I gave you the runaround.
