Help reproducing my existing Substack essays + podcasts model on WordPress

    I currently run my newsletter and podcast through Substack. But given Substack management’s response to calls to stop monetizing hate on the platform, I’d like to move, preferably to WordPress. However, it’s not clear how to reproduce my setup and subscriber model within WordPress, and so I’d love suggestions on how to accomplish this, if possible.

    I publish both essays and podcast episodes. Both are free to everyone, but paid supporters get them a week early. At Substack, I manage this by publishing everything as supporter-only, but then use their “unlock” feature to set a date at which the essay or episode becomes public, and the system then automatically sends a second email to all my free subscribers.

    I see how I can host podcast episodes on WordPress, and that I can make a paid newsletter, and send posts just to paying members. But is there a way to do this automated unlocking and notification to free subscribers?

    You can certainly achieve the same functionalities and layouts of your site using some free themes (https://wordpress.com/themes).

    But is there a way to do this automated unlocking and notification to free subscribers?

    Sure! You can use the Paid Content block to show individual sections to those who subscribe:
