Help requested re blog page in menu and pasting a Word table into Gateway theme
-
Hi there,
We’re building a Gateway-themed WordPress site so we can write and blog about a trip cycling the length of New Zealand.
We’re run across a hurdle or two hopefully someone could help with:1. I’ve amended the menu bar at the top below the featured image so that one of the drop-downs is “The Blog”. However, I can’t find a way to make it so that new blog posts appear here – I think it may be because that menu element is set to “page”, but I can’t change it to the blog element. So when I write a new blog post each one appears in the “featured posts” section at the bottom, disappearing when I write a new post (as they’re not sticky posts at the moment). What I’d like is for the blog to be featured in “The Blog” menu section, and then the latest two posts to appear as two of the “featured posts” at the bottom, but I don’t know how to put the actual blog itself into “The Blog” menu dropdown. Does this make sense?! And how do I fix it?!
2. We have a table in Word outlining our route for each day – eg: “Day 1, Cape Reinga to Auckland, 200km”. But when we try to copy the Word table across into a static page (The Route from the menu bar) it busts and we have to fix it manually. Any idea if there’s a way of copying something like this into WordPress neatly?
Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Dominic

Hi Dominic,
Let me try to help you here.
1. From what I understand you see your latest three post on the homepage and you would like to have them show up on a separate page called “the blog”. You can look up this page about setting a static homepage (https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/)
2. Copying from Word can be a little tricky, I would suggest you read through this page (https://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/). It has information about tables as well.
Good luck for your biking trip.
thanks

Hi Dominic,
1. Here’s your blog page: https://whitecloudadventure.wordpress.com/the-blog/. That’s what would be an ordinary static page, but for the fact that it has been set as the posts page. .
What I’d like is for the blog to be featured in “The Blog” menu section…but I don’t know how to put the actual blog itself into “The Blog” menu dropdown.
You can’t actually put the blog into the menu. A custom menu consists entirely of links to various URLs. The menu item “The Blog” is already linked to the blog page, so unless I’ve misunderstood your goal has already been accomplished. Have your resolved this issue?
and then the latest two posts to appear as two of the “featured posts” at the bottom
The Featured Content section that appears on your home page, and on the front page of the Gateway demo, is a feature of the Homepage Template on the Gateway theme. It can’t be made to appear on the blog page. The blog page is an automatically generated page that entirely consists of published posts, displayed in reverse-chronological order by publish date.
2. I’ll pass on the second support request for now.
