help restoring my site

I have been trying to restore my website that was originally created on wordpress. It was linked with woo commerce and hosted by siteground. i contacted siteground and they say that they no longer have access to the site.

  • WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a little separate, and that can be confusing.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Unfortunately, your site was not stored here, as WordPress.com only stores sites hosted on these servers. Your site files and database were on Siteground servers.

If you had a Jetpack/VaultPress paid backup plan, that might be the only way to get the site back from this company. You might have installed other backup plugins, and that would be something you would have stored on your computer or another storage like Google Drive.

You might use something like the internet archive to copy and paste old content if Siteground doesn’t have a backup and you didn’t take one either. Try entering your site address at http://web.archive.org to search.

web archive has a backup from august 2018 but it says access is forbidden. as for jetpack, it Was linked and i had also tried to access a backup from their site but I was unable to log in. At the time of creating my last site I was unaware that there was a .com and .org for wordpress. I have been using wordpress for years prior while in school. I completely created the site on the wordpress website but it wasn’t until I converted it to an e commerce store that it became hosted separately by site ground. That’s why I thought i could possibly restore it from wordpress.

  • Did you have a paid Jetpack plan that would have taken a backup of your self hosted site? If not, I’m afraid that none of that content is still available via WordPress.com. You’d need to simply rebuild the site.

If you had a WordPress.com hosted site before moving to Siteground and did not delete it, that could be recovered via the My site menu.

No i didnt so I guess ill have to rebuild the site. Thank you for the assistance.

  • Good luck with it! If you ever opt to use WordPress.com hosting, an awesome thing is that your site isn’t totally deleted if you miss a payment.
