Help Setting Up Portfolio Theme

Okay, first off I’m actually using my own webhost so my wordpress is located at: joshhemmyonline.com
I am attempting to setup a portfolio site and coding is not my expertise. I liked the linquist theme, so I was thinking of using that as you can see, but I need help formatting it to my liking.
First of all, I have no idea how to change the title text into a logo image. I couldn’t see anywhere to change it from the theme, so I’m guessing I might have to do it from the editor…which is code which I’m pretty useless at. That’s my first hurdle that I want to fix.
The second major thing that I want to change is the first page. If you click on the “About” page or “Portfolio” page…that is what I want to do to the Home page. I just want a blank page where I can use html to add and format my images as I want. I DO NOT want it to act like a blog. I’m trying to turn this wordpress theme into a portfolio site, not a blog site, so I don’t want any of the blog elements. Can I do this? How?
If anyone could help me with either of these issues, please help. It will be much appreciated!
