Help: ‘The editor has encountered an unexpected error’
-
Help: I’ve tried to edit my websites appearance but the editing tool encounters an unexpected error every time and I can’t figure out how to solve this issue. I’ve tried deactivating plug ins but nothing seems to work. Hope someone a bit more savvy can let me know what to do:
Here is the copy of my error:

Hi @timuraubenheimer24! I’m not able to reproduce the issue you’re seeing. Can you tell me which template you were trying to edit? It sounds like maybe a specific block might be giving you a problem.
-
hey, thanks for replying. I’m using a Heiwa theme and when I open the Appearance-> Editor the display of the editor is dark and says the “unexpected error..” notification. The side menu, where I can go between pages, patterns, navigation, styles and templates is still visible and I can switch between them, but the display of the website in the editor is in error.
I’?ve been trying to edit the text of my websites footer. -
Hi again @timuraubenheimer24! I just tried editing your footer and didn’t get an error of any kind. I made it all the way to pulling up your footer in the editor directly and it comes up clean for me.
If you navigate to this page, you’ll be given a unique URL. Can you copy that and paste it into a reply here? If you’re not comfortable sharing your browser information publicly (hey, some people aren’t and that’s okay), let me know and I can take this to email.

Hi again @timuraubenheimer24!
Thanks for providing that information! Based on the link you provided, I gather that your main browser is Safari, on version 15.3. The current version of Safari is 17.4.1. It’s possible (although not certain), that the error is caused by the older version of Safari. Protocols used on the Internet are being updated all the time, and sometimes that means that older versions of browsers can’t handle the newest protocols.
I suggest trying to update your Safari browser to the latest version by following the instructions found here. (If you are on a desktop or laptop Mac computer running MacOS, then this would involve updating the Mac operating system.)
If you aren’t able to update Safari, another option could be to try the latest version of another browser, such as Chrome or Safari.
Could you try that update, or try another up-to-date browser, and see if the error message still occurs? Let us know what happens, and then we’ll continue to look for other suggestions if you still encounter the error.
