Help…trying to get started
-
So I was trying to just do the free account and purchase a domain name, but I clicked on the 1 year free domain name and created and account and now I have to choose a paid plan. I’m not sure what to do…I have an account now, and it looks like my domain name is reserved….but there is a plan in my cart that I can’t remove. I can’t figure out how to now, just pay for the domain and use the free version of WordPress…I don’t want to pay for a plan just yet, because this is the first time I have created a blog and want to make sure I enjoy it before committing to a paid plan. Please help, I don’t know what to do. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
You only get a custom domain for free for the first year if you upgrade to a paid plan.
On the free plan, you get a free example.wordpress.com address, in this case, https://mysensitivelifedotblog.wordpress.com/.
You can then buy a domain separately, but that domain will just redirect to your free WordPress.com address, i.e. visitors to your site will see the free address in their browsers, not the domain they bought. To set the domain as the primary address for your site will require a paid plan.

it looks like my domain name is reserved
Domains cannot be reserved. The domain will only be yours once you pay for it and complete the registration process. Until that point, anyone else can still buy the domain from any domain provider.
there is a plan in my cart that I can’t remove.
Go to My Site ->Plans and click the cart icon top-right. You can remove items from the cart there.
You can also do this by clicking the Edit link that appears above the items in the cart on the checkout page.
Let me know if you need any more help removing the plan from your cart, or if you have any other questions about plans and domains on WordPress.com.
