Help, tutorials suck, site looks like crap, where are the how-to's…?

  • Unknown's avatar

Just purchase premium, cannot seem to set up main page, images are too big, copy doesn’t upload to location(static), basically site looks like crap, too chunky. Tutorials are useless or maybe missing information?. Using template Rebalanced as it represents a portfolio type presentation, I like it, otherwise can someone please direct me to understanding this product, how to’s, live contact or even a refund? Dang, not knew to blog/web/technology but this product seems un-user friendly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi there, did you consult the theme showcase page for set-up info?

    https://wordpress.com/theme/rebalance

If you still have specific questions after reading that, let us know.

Thanks for your reply. I did consult the showcase page, several times, with links continuing to take me everywhere but to a solid answer. After watching the video tutorials I followed the instructions, revise, and then view the page/blog posting and it defaulted to an oversize photo right in the middle of the page. What am doing wrong here? I wanted thumbnails not an over sized jpeg. Searched for image size and placement, nothing comes up. I want the exact main page presentation of Rebalance, how???
    Thanks again.

Hello again, it looks like you’ve set up your site with a static front page as the home page, but are not using Rebalance’s special front portfolio page template, if that is what you wanted.

On the showcase page, it explains how to set up the portfolio page as your site’s front page and how to create the portfolio. See under “Portfolio Page Template” and here’s more on that https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/ You do have to create projects so they will show up there. Currently it looks like you’ve created Posts instead.

If you want your blog Posts to appear as your site’s front page (which I believe was the default), you should change your settings in the Customizer so that blog posts appear instead of a static front page. More on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Also, since you mentioned that you upgraded to Premium, you are eligible for direct assistance from Staff when you are logged in with the username account that purchased the upgrade and post through the contact form in your dashboard at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

Justjennifer, thanks so much for replying, very helpful. So I did as you suggested and went here(below) as I am trying to absorb information and find I do well with walk-thru and found this frustrating.
    https://wordpress.com/theme/portfolio/setup
clicking on the “view demonstration here” got a 404 Not Found, dead link.
I’ll keep going and thank you for your support. The portfolio option is exactly what I want to present.

Ok crap, didn’t realize I needed to pay $79…that is why the link was 404, sorry.

Hello again, “Portfolio” is a Premium theme.

You don’t need that theme in order to set up a portfolio feature on your site, which is using the Rebalance theme.

Please follow and read the links I provided in my above replies.

    Justjennifer,
One other question or issue, if you view my site and and click on the accent lighting /industrial lighting the photos appear nested on the left side, no spacing, no flow, visually unattractive, what am I doing wrong there?
Also, is there live support for a premium account? A phone #? I have read through your links provided but am still running into design/layout issues.
    Thanks again.

Also, there is a small box labeled category within these blog pages, what have I done wrong here, not issues with the furniture link.
    So frustrating.

  • Also, is there live support for a premium account?

Yes, absolutely – you can access the live chat support option when available here, where a Happiness Engineer will help you in real-time:

One other question or issue, if you view my site and and click on the accent lighting /industrial lighting the photos appear nested on the left side, no spacing, no flow, visually unattractive, what am I doing wrong there?

    I see two issues here.

First – since your images on the Industrial Lighting post are all different sizes, it might look nicer as a mosaic tiled gallery, instead of a thumbnail gallery. You could try choosing the Tiled Mosaic option for the gallery.

    https://tjmdesignlab.com/2017/08/03/industrial-lighting/

Second – your Industrial Lighting menu item links to the Industrial Lighting category. Category pages in Rebalance display posts in a grid. Since you only have one post in this category so far, the grid looks unfinished.

Have you considered making Industrial Lighting a page instead of a post?

Also, there is a small box labeled category within these blog pages, what have I done wrong here, not issues with the furniture link.

This is also because you’ve used posts instead of pages.

You can learn more here about the difference:

    Pages vs. Posts
