Help uploading theme from ThemeForest

    I tried uploading a theme to my WordPress.com site but both zip files which I downloaded have errors.

    One of the zip files doesn’t have a style.css stylesheet according to WordPress.

    The theme is CityTours, downloaded from Envato.com.

    Can anyone offer a potential solution for this please?

    Hi @brisbanecitysights,

    Themes from third-party sites, such as ThemeForest, can’t be uploaded to sites that are hosted here at WordPress.com. Instead, they can only be uploaded to sites that are hosted elsewhere and running on the free software available at WordPress.org.

    The differences between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and WordPress.org) is a common and understandable point of confusion. I recommend the following guide, which gives a good overview on the two, if you’re unsure:

    If you’re seeing errors when attempting to upload your theme through a different host than WordPress.com, please try contacting the support team for either your host or theme directly. You can also find a dedicated support forum for WordPress.org here:

    It’s worth mentioning that, although you can’t upload third-party themes here at WordPress.com, we do offer hundreds of hand-picked themes for you to choose from in our repository:

    Hi,

    Thanks for your helpful and lengthy response.

    I should have clarified my question a little.

    I’m using the wordpress software- WordPress 4.6.1 and I’ve registered the domain ‘brisbaneinsights.com’, which is being hosted by DreamHost.

    So it seems that users are able to upload themes on WordPress 4.6.1. It is allowing me to upload zip files but there are errors with them.

    I’m just wondering what else I can try to make sure the theme can be uploaded and installed.

    The forums here at WordPress.com aren’t the best place for help with sites that aren’t hosted here. I recommend the community forums over at WordPress.org, instead:
