Help! Website Threatened with Ransom Email

    Today I was sent an extortion email threatening to hack my website if I don’t pay a ransom in bitcoin. The hackers call themselves Armada Collective. I’ve alerted my hosting service Network Solutions, who seemed less than concerned. Has anyone dealt with this or is there anything I can do? I subscribed to a website protection program and also purchased SSL Certification.

    Hi there,

    As your site is not hosted with us we’re unable to help you with this, but the Jetpack plugin you have installed does offer some protection against hackers. Just make sure you have those featured installed.

    I’d also recommend you look at the VaultPress plugin. It’s a premium plugin, meaning you need to pay for it, but it offers both security and full site backups, so should your site be hacked they can restore your site for you.

    You might also want to post in the self-hosted WordPress forums. The users there are more likely to have encountered issues like this than the users here on WordPress.com:
