Help! Where did my post go?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok new to this so sorry if a daft question. I have set up my blog with a lot of subpages to file info gathered,
I wanted a static intro page, an area where I can ‘blog’ and then pages where I can store info gathered. So I wrote this post http://wp.me/p3Af9J-1D but when I look for it on the links in the left hand menu I cant see it anywhere.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help

    Mak

By default the front page of the blog is the page that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. You can create a custom menu and include your own Home page in it instead. You can include whichever items you want and exclude all others.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages

If that’s not what you mean and you are referring to Pages and you have other Pages that are not displaying I suggest you go to > Dashboard > Pages > All Pages and hover over the Page titles then click “edit” and check the page visibility settings in the Publish module.
    edit pages screen http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/edit-pages-screen/

Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing
They must be public pages – not private.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Reader, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.

If you created a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ then you can add Pages to it and create the order you want.

thanks for your help, I will read those pages.

What I meant, is the pages are all there, but I cannot find the dynamic page. I guess the intro page, which has do not allow comments, must be the one where the dynamic one is hiding in then.

Acks will need to redo it all bleh

    Thanks so much

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

    Front page displays
    __ Your latest posts

    A static page (select below)

Timethief, thank you for your help, I think I got it sorted now.
Top menu entry (havilah & running creek) should now be the static page and chatting & research the blog bit.

I appreciate your time and assistance

    Hi Mak,
I’m happy I was able to help. Best wishes.

Ok, disregard, I must not have properly refreshed.

I’m at loss (sorry English is not my mother tongue so get easily confused)

I went and created 2 pages
    1- a page called “Welcome”
I want this to be an intro to blog but not the blogging page. This should be a static page that shows when I enter my blogs url
2- a page called “Research Blog”, this should be the page where the actual blog sits

I went and created a custom menu that lists welcome, how does this work and research blog menu entries in that order.

I then went to settings>reading and set the setting like this:
    – Front page displays a *static page
    Front page=Welcome
    Posts page = research blog
    and saved

When I go to blog http://havilahandrunningcreek.wordpress.com/ the welcome page (with intro to blog) is displayed, but when I click on the “research blog’ menu entry it shows exactly the same page

    what am I doing wrong?
