help with adding gallery images

  • Unknown's avatar

I need help adding images to each of my project pages. I was in the past able to do this easily but WordPress has changed a little and so for me now it’s difficult.
I originally used a tile gallery ( which used to be a widget) and I still would like to use tiled gallery however I followed some instructions but this makes the images really tiny albeit when you click on them they do go much larger. But I dont think it helps the asthectics of each page with tiny images. How can I make them a little larger and also another problem is I dont know how to assign them to the project page only as all images will go to all pages. I look foward to your helpful reply. Kim

  • Hi there, I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re trying to do – were you working on adding the tiled galleries within the main content of your project pages? Or was this within the widgets sidebar or footer?

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Originally on each project page eg this one – https://cohibaproductions.wordpress.com/kitty-wilkinson/ I would have the blurp writing then the video and then on the right had side the still images for the project. I used to do a tiled gallery via the widgets but then it changed and then I’ve tried to do it via the sidebar but the images are too small albeit when you click on them they do go larger. However, this way I’ve not got the option or rather I don’t know where to find the option to create the gallery for just that page as they go on all pages hence now I don’t have any images on any of the pages.

I just need a way of how to get my images back onto the website on each other their correct project.

    Thank you

  • Hi there, what about my suggestion to use the columns block (and a full width page template) to create that look individually for each page? https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/problem-with-images-loading/#post-3879535

You may recall, there is a video linked in that reply that shows you how to create a two column look directly within the page editor (no widgets needed) and at the time you seemed to like this suggestion. Did you have trouble in trying it for yourself?

As a reminder, I’ve set up a copy of the page you mentioned, but with a sidebar that is added using the columns block as I suggested. You can see from the link below, it looks pretty good!

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    hi

I’ve just tried to follow the help video on the Bolder they walk page here. Which doesnt turn out quite like your example. the problem being my page doesnt look like yours. ( I’ve shown you a screen shot in my media ) https://cohibaproductions.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=63&action=edit&calypsoify=1

Firstly I didn’t know the best way to approach the change so this is what I did. I deleted the info about my bolder they walk project and copy and pasted it. I then added column + and then pasted the writing underneath the video and then went to the gallery to add the images. I thought I was successful to this point. However, the problem arose when I came to add new/insert gallery to my page, I discovered I don’t have the same options available on the right side of my page that you show in your example here. https://cohibaproductions.wordpress.com/what-a-difference-a-day-makes/

it looks much different to your page and I don’t know why my options are not the same as yours in the video.

also because of my approach when i came to try to undo what I had done I found I couldnt. Again please see images in my media. This question would be helpful as to how do I start the process. Do I need to start a new page or can i do the process with the page I have already?

I am sooo sorry for this I really am trying my best to get this up and running properly.

hi – yes I love this look
    https://cohibaproductions.wordpress.com/?page_id=1544&preview=true
but for me to achieve it do I need to delete everything from the page and start again?

  • do I need to delete everything from the page and start again?

Definitely not, but I think it will help if I clarify things a bit. I am using the “Columns block” to create the basic layout in the page itself (so you would do this with each page you want this look for) but I am able to take the existing content and move it into one column. Then I add the image gallery to the second column.

The issue here is that you can’t drag your existing block into a column. To do that you first need to add an empty “paragraph block” and then you can drag it in. You can see how this is done in the video here.

So there are a few small hoops to jump through to accommodate your existing content (this goes more smoothly for new pages you create) but there is no need to start over.

    Hope this helps!
