Help with Affinity Theme
-
I have activated the Affinity Theme, main reason was to do away with the side bar.
I can’t seem to remove it as a Widget. If I to the widget area and choose Sidebar then it shows no items. If I add several then they show up on the sidebar and I can go back and delete them, but two stubborn side bars won’t remove.
(I want to use them again at the bottom of the page, and find i can do that!)< but I can’t remove them on the side bar.Any advice.
Its a great looking theme, and one that I think I will get a lot of enjoyment from using and for my followers but, that sidebar. Please?David

Some themes show a few widgets as default if you completely empty a certain widget area. Try including just a blank text widget and see if that forces the sidebar to display with nothing in. Let me know how it goes!

Ah@!!!!!!
I added the text box.
It showed up, and so did the pesky Categories list.
Deleted the text box.
Categories still showed. But.
I then made another empty text box, and reordered it to the top, deleted the Categories list and it did in fact delete.
Then I deleted Text box and it to departed. (Thankfully). Spoilt a rather neat looking design I thougth.
So thanks for that quick response.
Now all I have to do is rebuild the side bar info at the bottom of the page and all will abe well. Thanks again.

Hi David,
Affinity also has a “Full Width, No Sidebar” page template that you can assign to pages you don’t wish to display a sidebar on.
To assign that template to a page, firstly navigate to its editor. You’ll then find the template dropdown menu in the “Page Options” tab on the left side.
If you’ve already assigned that template to a page and are still seeing a sidebar, please share the URL to the page in your next reply and I’ll take a look.
I’ll be happy to help with any other questions, also.

Hi siobhyb,
I’d seen that option when I was first reviewing using Affinity, but then in the heat of changing it all over, (I’d modified a few colours and boxes that didn’t work), I forgot all about it.
Yep it works for Pages, but I don’t think I can find the same feature for Posts.
Still it will make some of the Project pages easier when I get to work on them.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi David,
You’re right that there isn’t a template option for posts but no widgets should be displayed if the sidebar area is empty. If you’re seeing differently then just let us know and we’ll take a look into what’s happening. :)

Hi siobhyb,
thanks for the follow up.
I managed to get the sidebar under control thanks to the headsup from hallluke.
I’ve been using a long side bar routine for almost as long as I’ve been on WordPress, but really wanted a freshen up. I suspect that I’ve changed themes a few times over the years, that some ‘odd’ code managed to get in the way.
Really pleased with the way it looks now, and a couple of followers have commented nicely.
It’s a pity that Affinity doesn’t support some of those post variations of Post Format, as Asides and Gallery and Quote have worked for me nicely. Still get that feel on a page, but have to work at it a bit harder.
The big sliding panels appeals as well, so I’ve some things to look at adding in the future.
Thanks again for the help.David

I’m glad you’ve got the sidebar under control now and that you’re generally enjoying Affinity! :) You know where to find us if extra questions do come up.
