help with appearance – displaying username and avatars next to posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everyone,

I just started a new blog that is intended to be for my entire family. I would like for everyone in my family to be able to post to the blog, and next to their post I would like a little picture of them (an avatar) and I would like for it to say their username, to be clear who is posting it. Ive added all my family members as administrators to the blog but when they post it doesn’t even show their username, much less their avatar. BTW, I know how to make an avatar/gravatar for them. How can I change this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We need a link to your blog, starting with http, in order to be sure our answers are appropriate for you.

    Okay, thanks. Here’s the scoop:

Whether or not a WP.com post displays avatars and “Posted By” is theme-dependent. There is nothing you can do to make it perform that way otherwise, except to have each poster put in their username and avatar right in the post each time. That’s probably not practical for a family blog, since not everyone is a coder!

My recommendation: Use the Author widget, which puts everyone’s avatar and name in the sidebar. Click on the name to get all that person’s posts. And switch themes to one that displays avatars and posted by info.

Thanks a lot for your help. Could you recommend a theme that does that? I would prefer a theme that also allows a custom image header.

The only one I know of is Neo Sapien, but I’m sure there are many. Play around with previews and I’m sure you’ll find one you like. There used to be theme reviews at http://internetducttape.com but I don’t know if he’s still doing them.
