Help with Basic Plan

    Regarding the Basic plan – paid annually –

    WordPress.com Personal – annual subscription fee of 48 USD
    and Domain Registration – First year free with your plan

    Does that mean that I don’t need to look at a Hosting plan separately ( like Blue Host etc) ? Is WordPress hosting my site as well?

    What is the fee after the free 1st year?

    Any other hidden charges I need to be aware of?

    ‘Basic design customization’ – does your team help with this?

    That is correct. WordPress.com is a hosting provider for the open source WordPress software, like Bluehost, so you either host your site with us or you host it with them.

    Hosting is actually free on WordPress.com – what you’re paying for with our plans are just the extra features included in those plans. That means, unlike with traditional providers like Bluehost, if you ever cancel or forget to renew your plan, your site won’t be taken offline when the plan is removed. It just reverts to the free plan, i.e. only the extra features are removed. Your site itself will continue to be hosted with us indefinitely.

    What is the fee after the free 1st year?

    That depends on what domain you register. A .com domain costs $18 a year, so it would be $48 + $18. Other domains cost as much as $80 a year.

    Any other hidden charges I need to be aware of?

    We don’t charge you for anything else unless you explicitly buy something else from us in addition to your plan and domain, for example, if you decide to buy G Suite email from us. Also note that should you at some point decide to upgrade to the Business Plan to use plugins, the cost of our plans don’t include the cost of any premium plugins you might want to use – you’d need to buy those directly from the companies that sell them before you can use them here.

    ‘Basic design customization’ – does your team help with this?

    We provide support for all features on WordPress.com. But to clarify, this means if you want to do something specific, we’ll explain to you how to use our tools to do it. We don’t provide design services where we design/redesign your site for you.
